MCLI Session 4: Education & Workforce Development 📚🎓

This week, our Muhlenberg County Leadership Institute participants explored the vital connection between education and workforce development.

We started the day with Kentucky Changers, learning about how they serve the community while teaching middle and high school students valuable lessons in leadership, mentorship, and teamwork, and safety.

The day included visits to Muhlenberg County Middle School, the West Kentucky Regional Technical Training Center, the Muhlenberg County High School CTE Wing, and the Muhlenberg County Board of Education.

A special thank you to Nika Ball and Carrie Clark, Muhlenberg County Schools tour. Mack McGehee-Judge Executive, for leading the technical training center tour. We also appreciate Kendra Pate, CTE Assistant Principal, for hosting the CTE visit.

Our education panel featured Brian Lile, incoming superintendent; Ashley Vincent Poore with Adult Education; and Brittany Hernandez-Stevenson from Madisonville Community College. Participants also took part in a Profile of a Learner activity, project discussions, and Defense of Learning presentation by student Maycee Wilson.

A big thank you to Chamber member Subway – Powderly location for providing lunch!

Thank you to all of our presenters and partners for investing in the future leaders of Muhlenberg County. Together, we’re building stronger connections between education, leadership, and workforce opportunities.

Lake Malone State Park is hosting a FREE event this weekend. Want to camp? Reserve your spot now!

I’ve been asked how much does it cost to attend: nothing. If you’re camping, you need to call and reserve your spot. That is the only true expense. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE. However, if you’re just coming for the day, cmon over. Absolutely free to attend. The only cost is a crafts booth to cover the cost of materials. That is $15 per person. But bring money in the event our people bring their gear for you to purchase.

Hey! It’s our VP👇🏻on this wonderful Wednesday! 🫶🏻

Today's Woosley Woman Wednesday is...

Carla Embry of Bremen, Kentucky, is a lifelong member of Brier Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a devoted daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, and faithful servant of Christ. She exemplifies servant leadership through her unwavering commitment to her church, community, and the Cumberland Presbyterian Women's Ministry.

Carla previously served as her church's CPWM President and currently serves as Treasurer for the Cumberland Region CPWM and President-Elect of the CPWM Executive Committee.

At Brier Creek, she serves as Chair of the Worship Committee, backup church treasurer, worship leader, Sunday school teacher, and co-leader of the annual Wreaths Across America service. She also helps lead the youth group and leads Wednesday evening worship for B.C. Buddies, serves during Vacation Bible School each summer, and has previously served as an elder.

Professionally, Carla is the Community Relations Specialist, Director of the Family Resource Center, and STAND (Students Teaching Against Negative Decisions) advisor for Muhlenberg County Schools, where she faithfully supports students and families.

Her community service is equally remarkable. She serves on the board of Pathway of Hope, is Vice President of the Greater Muhlenberg Chamber of Commerce, and has volunteered in numerous Great Banquet ministries, including jail ministry.
Carla's heart for service reflects her love for Christ. She approaches every responsibility with integrity, compassion, and excellence, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her joyful spirit, genuine kindness, and steadfast faith inspire everyone around her.

When asked to describe Carla in one word, friends and family offered these reflections: pillar, passionate, loving, selfless, loyal, joyful, dedicated, cheerful, outgoing, faithful, compassionate, courageous, and F.I.N.E. Together, these words describe a woman whose life faithfully reflects the love of Christ through humble service.
