Another long legacy where Love Wins! Well done, Good & Faithful Layla. Francis Batista & Co-Founders of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary were the first people to teach me about Pit Bulls, fighting rings, and that a dog is a dog.... Best Friends was the first on the ground disaster relief team for animals following Katrina's devastation in New Orleans and the last to leave 9 months later. They organized an unprecedented animal rescue operation that challenged & changed inhumane practices & rehabilitated & rehomed thousands of animals. Many were unaltered Pit Bulls & a high ratio of dogs were infected with heartworm disease. This uncannily set a stage for this organization to later play a pivotal role in saving and rehabilitating the pit bulls from the Michael Vick Bad Newz Kennels and fighting ring. This story had many heros, including BadRap.org (founded by husband & wife team Donna Reynolds & Tim Racer). But the true heros were the dogs, branded Victory Dogs. They have lived amazing lives of restoration and inspiration since their emancipation. We commend & are grateful to all who worked with them and especially those who gave them their final, loving homes. And because of God's great design, we humbly acknowledge that these amazing animals always end up teaching, rescuing & growing our hearts far beyond anything we could accomplish on our own. Their gifts to us far surpass what they receive in return.
