Wait
“But they that wait (look and patiently wait) upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart: wait (look and patiently wait), I say, on the LORD” (Psalm 27:14).
Have you ever seen a child roll around on the floor, yelling, “I want it NOW!” Or, have you ever watched someone put their lunch in a microwave and then begin tapping on the counter, while venting with raised voice, hurry up…hurry up already! We chuckle because we’ve witnessed these and other events that are just as absurd. It’s sad that we have become such impatient people. This problem is like a virus that infects every other area of our lives. And the greatest damage is the effect it has on our relationship with our Abba Father. This hurry-up world has infected our ability to wait patiently, especially when it comes to waiting on the Lord.
God has unlimited power to answer our prayers. He doesn’t always answer as quickly as we would like. We have a really hard time with the waiting part. It goes against our grain to be patient. He isn’t being mean or unfeeling when He asks us to wait. He wants us to trust His perfect timing. He sees the end from the beginning. He knows what is best, and He loves us so much that He asks us to endure the waiting time to get the best result. We may not even be ready for His answer, so He is preparing us in that waiting time.
When trials come, we need to keep all this in mind. 1 Peter 5: 6-10 says: “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.” This is a great encouragement for these tough times.
When they refine gold to be pure, it takes time and patience. We are the same way. It can be a painful process as well. We can absolutely trust Him and wait knowing that His promise is to perfect, establish, strengthen and settle you in His timing.
We at New Hope know that waiting on God through a hard season is difficult, but the good news is that it is worth the wait! We are here to walk with you through your valley.
