Wednesday was Senior Squadron Fly Day and we brought the semi-profile back to the field. George flew the maiden flight on his new airplane. He has a really nice green and black color scheme on it and it really shows up well in the sky. Had a great crowd and another beautiful day.

Finally got to maiden the 94” semi-profile this week. Tim Markley, George Lust, and myself went up to the field on Tuesday. This is by far the best flying plane in our hangar. It is so smooth and the DLE55RA has plenty of power to do any maneuver you want it to do.

Still working in the semi-profile and after doing the balance I had to change a lot of things and add over 20 oz of weight to the nose. The fuselage is 80” long. Had to change the receiver to a SPMAR2031OT and I came with its own power switch. The recvr power sw is now mounted next to the ignition power sw. and since the hole was bigger than the original sw, I used container plastic to mount the sw to then mounted the plastic to the original plate. I mounted 4 of the 5 weights so far in the nose. . About 19 oz. Still have to mount the new receiver and secure the batteries. More to come.

Had to finally burn this pile to make room for material to burn. It’s a never ending job around here.

Worked on the 1/4 scale Cub today. The plane has been around for a very loooong time. It belonged to a good friend and fellow CORKS member Don Raney. I replaced all the electronics, servos, and fuel system, and added a brand new DLE engine. It’s ready for break in as soon as the weather warms up a bit. Excited to get it in the air again.

All of the damaged balsa has been removed. Two of the ribs were broken off from the trailing spar to the trailing edge. I built up the spar to provide a ledge for the sheeting and notched it so i could anchor the ribs. I attached a partial spar to the existing outside spars to provide a ledge for new sheeting. It’s now ready for sheeting. I’m still trying to match the covering color. No luck so far.

Would love to hear comments and feedback on what you’ve seen so far. Is there anything you would do differently?

So, i broke away just enough balsa sheeting from the bottom of the wing to better acess the structural damage underneath. it also allowed me to measure for cutting away the covering and sheeting without getting into the stringer or rubs. I then used the dremel to make the cuts. Only one rib was broken. The next post is my first attempt at doing a video and I try to go into a little more detail about the repairs.

A friend of mine had an accident in his garage asked me to evaluate the damage. Minor structural damage and covering damage on top and bottom. The most difficult part of this repair will be matching the covering colors.
