We are counting our first “Junior Seed Starting Campaign” as a success. We met with Mrs Kerr’s kindergarten class on March 27th and helped twenty new gardeners/future farmers to get their spring seeds started. Today we had a table at Evans Insurance Agency where we were able to hand out approx 40 free seed starting kits.
It’s our hope to see some of these youngsters at the 2026 Horticultural Exhibit in September for our Oldtime Farming Festival.
Thank you to the volunteers from the Centerburg Garden Club, The Centerburg Future Farmers Of America, Elle Fink, Tracy Thorpe, and Maria Mattix for the generous donation of your time, supplies, and space to hold the event.

🌱 Free Seed Starting Kits! 🌱

The Oldtime Farming Festival and the Centerburg Garden Club are kicking off a Junior Seed Starting Campaign for the 2026 festival!

Join them in Centerburg at 22 W Main St on Saturday, April 11th from 10am–Noon to pick up a free seed starting kit for kids (pre-K through high school).

Start growing now and enter your harvest in the festival’s Horticultural Exhibit this fall! 🌼

Don’t forget to stop by 22 W Main Street Centerburg this Saturday April 11th between 10:00am and 12:00noon to pick up your free seed starting kits. One kit per child ages pre-school through high school while supply lasts. Seeds, pots, soil, and instructions. Everything except the sun, water, and your TLC.

Nine Centerburg High School FFA students visited the Centerburg Elementary to assist The Centerburg Garden Club and The Oldtime Framing Festival Horticultural Show committee with a seed starting activity in Mrs Kerr’s Kindergarten class. Each student was able to select two different plants to start from seed.

In addition, The Oldtime Farming Festival Horticultural Committee will be handing out seed starting kits for youngsters in our community on Saturday April 11th from 10:00am until 12:00 noon. 22 W Main Street, Centerburg.

Maria Mattix of Evans Insurance Agency has offered use of her office at 22 W Main St, Centerburg, to pass out the kits. Kits are 1 per child; pre-school through high school while the supply lasts.

Special thank you to Tracy Thorpe for supplying a very generous jar of soybeans, to Elle Fink for donating many packets of various seeds, to Rhonda Seligman for helping during the kindergarten activity and especially Mrs Brittany Kerr for inviting us into her classroom.

It was a great way to start Spring Break.
