We're proud to highlight our member land trusts and the incredible work they're doing to conserve, steward, and celebrate Connecticut's natural landscapes. Today's spotlight is on East Haddam Land Trust .

With roots tracing back to some of the conservation movement's early leaders, EHLT has grown into a creative, community-driven organization that stewards nearly 1,000 acres of open space in East Haddam. From enlisting goats to combat invasive species to engaging volunteers in caring for local preserves, EHLT demonstrates that conservation is most successful when the whole community is involved.

To experience that community spirit firsthand, join East Haddam Land Trust for Musical Bridges, their annual outdoor concert and fundraiser, returning Monday, August 24th to the Goodspeed lawn along the Connecticut River. The event brings together local musicians, neighbors, and visitors for an evening of music, connection, and support for conservation.

Donations and raffle proceeds help fund the stewardship work that keeps East Haddam's protected lands healthy and accessible, including trail maintenance, footbridge construction, meadow preservation, invasive species management, and more.

Musical Bridges is more than a concert. It's a celebration of the community's shared commitment to protecting the landscapes that make East Haddam such a special place to live, work, and explore.

What exactly is a watershed?

A watershed is an area of land where all rain, runoff, and snowmelt flow into the same place. The Lower Connecticut River is the final stretch of a 7.2 million-acre watershed spanning more than 400 miles from northern New England to Long Island Sound.

Invasive aquatic species can spread easily from one waterbody to another—threatening the health of our lakes, rivers, and wetlands and the wildlife that depend on them.

Our local waters are part of what makes this region so special, and keeping them healthy means making sure they can be enjoyed responsibly for generations to come.

Before and after time on the water, remember to:
✔ Clean off boats, trailers, and gear
✔ Drain all water from equipment
✔ Dry everything thoroughly before moving to another waterbody

These simple steps go a long way in preventing the spread of invasive species and protecting the places we all love to explore. 💧🌿

We're proud to recognize Chester Land Trust and East Haddam Land Trust for their stewardship of properties included in the Long Island Sound Stewardship Atlas, an initiative of the Long Island Sound Partnership.

The program's 33 designated Stewardship Areas are recognized for their exceptional ecological, recreational, and scenic value. Each site helps protect the habitats, landscapes, and natural resources that make the Long Island Sound watershed so unique.

New Stewardship Area signs have recently been installed at these properties, helping visitors identify and learn more about their significance within this important network of conserved lands.
