ACTS - Assistance Canine Training Services Non-profit training service dogs and facility dogs for professionals working with adults or children that may benefit from animal assisted therapy

Our passion is training dogs to help people. We are a non-profit and we place highly skilled service dogs with individuals who use wheelchairs. We also place facility dogs. Our compassionate and loving facility dogs work with professionals who use animal assisted intervention in their daily work. At ACTS we pride ourselves in our community of volunteers and clients who with love train and utilize our amazing dogs.

The journey continues! 🐾

After getting a great start with Kate—working on puppy classes, big dog classes, field trips, vet appointments, events, and all kinds of everyday experiences—Muffin is ready for her next adventure!

She’s leaving Kate and is headed to the University of Vermont, where students can provide puppies with a whole new host of experiences and opportunities to learn. For the right puppy, this kind of environment can have a wonderfully positive impact on their training and development.

So now, Muffin and Annie are teaming up to continue Muffin’s training and help her take the next steps on her journey toward becoming an assistance dog. We can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes them! 💕🐶 Thank you Kate for all the training and love you provided!

Congratulations to Mopsy! 🐾❤️

She has found her forever home, and we couldn’t be happier for her.

A huge thank you to the many hands that helped her along the way—including Meg and Brian, who were her first puppy raisers and who lovingly nursed her back to health after surgery.

It truly takes a village, and Mopsy’s journey was no exceptions. Congratulations to all!

🐾 Sharing the Sidewalk with a Service Dog Team

Seeing a service dog out in public is exciting, but remember that these amazing dogs are working. The best way to support them is by allowing them to stay focused.

A few simple reminders:

Say hello to the handler or trainer, not the dog, if you’d like to greet the team.
Avoid petting, talking to, staring at, or distracting the dog in any way.
Give the team a little extra space when passing.
If you have your own dog with you, going around the team when possible is always appreciated.
Please don’t offer food or treats to a working dog.

The same courtesy applies to service dogs in training and the trainers who are helping them learn. These young dogs are practicing important skills and need the opportunity to focus, make good choices, and gain confidence in the world around them.

Service dog handlers and trainers are always happy to share when they can, but remember—they’re also just out living their everyday lives and doing important work.

A little awareness and kindness go a long way in helping these incredible teams succeed. ❤️🐾
