ACTS Service Dogs Our passion is training dogs to help people. We are a non-profit and we place highly skilled service dogs with individuals who use wheelchairs.

We are a non-profit, ADI accredited program dedicated to improving the lives of individuals through highly trained service, facility, and therapy dogs, enhancing independence, emotional well-being and community connection. We also place facility dogs. Our compassionate and loving facility dogs work with professionals who use animal assisted intervention in their daily work. At ACTS we pride ourselves in our community of volunteers and clients who with love train and utilize our amazing dogs.

All the dogs—even our smaller pups—work on learning the difference between “up” and “jump.”

“Up” means two feet up, while “jump” means all four feet off the ground. First, the dogs learn the two skills separately. Then they practice them over and over on ✌ familiar objects, building an association between the verbal cue and the action. Once they understand the difference, we begin introducing the cues on less familiar objects.

Nugget is taking a shot at “up” on the wagon and doing a great job! Way to go, Nugget! 🐾

We caught a glimpse of Freesia—now Wheezy—in a recent “Spotlight on Wheezy,” where she was celebrated as the amazing facility dog that she has become.

"Wheezy’s visits to our Massachusetts and Rhode Island autism care centers bring so much joy, comfort, and emotional support to the kiddos and colleagues she meets."

It’s wonderful to see how she has changed lives in such a meaningful way.

We couldn’t be happier to see Wheezy thriving and making a difference, one visit—and one cuddle—at a time. ❤️🐾 Bierman Autism Centers

Crates are so much more than a place for puppies to stay while they are learning.

They provide a safe, dependable place for puppies to rest, decompress, and take a break during the training process. We encourage our dogs to see their crates as their own safe spaces, where they can relax without being disturbed.

And that relationship with a crate continues throughout their lives. Our adult graduate dogs may use crates both at home and while working. Crates are also important when dogs need grooming or veterinary care, or when they travel.

So when we ask for crates, we're not just asking for something to get a puppy through training. We're providing our dogs with a safe space and an important life skill that will serve them for years to come.

Right now, we are getting desperate for crates. We need 36-inch crates most urgently, and we are also running low on 42-inch crates.

Well, if history repeats itself, we’ll be very happy! Lentil continues to work in detection, while Hickory is living life as a service dog. Perhaps Metro will follow in their footsteps and find a career of his own. We can’t wait to see where his journey takes him! 🐾 Follow us to see how each dogs training eventually takes them to their forever homes.
