💭 Are young adults currently experiencing a dating recession? 💭
An article posted by The Wheatley Institute back in February: State of our Unions 2026, highlights several concerning trends:
📉 Fewer young adults are actively dating
😕 Dating confidence is low within young adults
💸 Young adults reported significant financial and social/emotional barriers to dating
🧠 Dating resilience is low among young adults
️ This suggests that it may be more than a cultural shift— there is a need for relationship education and skill development. We spend significant time teaching people how to succeed professionally, yet far less time is spent helping people develop skills needed for healthy relationships, despite relationships being one of the strongest predictors of long-term happiness, well-being, and flourishing.
❤️ Relationship education matters because healthy relationships don’t happen by accident. They are built through intentional skills, support, practice, and community. ❤️
🏡 If we want stronger families, healthier communities, and more connected lives, we can’t treat relationship development as something people are just supposed to “figure out on their own”.
✨The future of relationships may shift from finding the “perfect person” to helping people become more capable, confident, emotionally healthy, and resilient partners.
