To continue sharing with you our journey back to China - This trip has been about showing Sarah the country where her story began.
The group we are travelling with gave us the choice to visit places connected to her early life, and Sarah chose to explore that part of her story. We visited the hospital where she was found. The original hospital is gone now, but the staff at the new one were incredibly kind and did everything they could to help us learn more. We didn't find all the answers we were looking for, but we left feeling genuinely cared for.
We were also welcomed back to Sarah's orphanage with so much warmth. They greeted us with a banner, gifts, and a wonderful meal. Sarah also brought gifts for the children and gave some of them out to a group of 3-4 year olds. She played a song on the piano for them and in return, they sang one back to her. It was precious!
There have been moments of joy and gratitude. But more than anything, we've been struck by the kindness we've experienced everywhere we've gone. Despite different languages and different life paths, we found so much that is shared.
We also visited the original orphanage that Sarah stayed in. It is a beautiful place tucked back into what is now a place that seems to be a number of community gardens. A lovely remote space that we all found fascinating.
We're incredibly grateful to everyone who has welcomed us and helped Sarah learn a little more about where her journey began. ❤️

Hello from Virginia!
We are Tom, Christi, and Sarah, and we are excited to be participating in The Park's Grand Tour of China this summer.
Sarah is 16 years old and was born in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China. She spent the first 21½ months of her life there before joining our family through adoption. We currently live in Staunton, Virginia, where we enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, playing games, and exploring new places.
For us, this trip is much more than a vacation—it is a homecoming.
In 2011, we traveled to Nanchang and completed our family which forever changed our lives. Fourteen years later, we have the opportunity to return with Sarah and experience together the beautiful country where her story began. This will be Sarah's first trip back to China since her adoption.
Sarah has grown into an amazing young woman. She is a leader at her high school, excels academically, and cares deeply for others. She is passionate about building relationships, equality and making a positive impact in her community. We are excited for her to experience China not only as a traveler but also as someone whose roots are connected to this remarkable country.
Tom serves as clergy in the Episcopal Church, and Christi is the head of a small private school. Together, we have four children. Our oldest son, Joseph, is married to Yebin. Our daughter Condé and her partner Luke, and our son Harrison and his wife Savannah are expecting their first child this summer.
We share our home with two dogs and two cats and love international travel. Some of life's greatest lessons have come from experiencing different cultures and meeting people from around the world.
We are most excited about introducing Sarah to the China of today while helping her reconnect with an important part of her personal story. We look forward to experiencing China's rich history, culture, and beauty together as a family.
This is our first experience with The Park, and we are excited to meet other families and adoptees who share a connection to China. We are grateful and look forward to sharing our journey along the way.
Warmly,
Tom, Christi, and Sarah

Chinese adoptee Neela experienced our first Adult Adoptee Rooted Route Tour and shared her reflections below. We're so thrilled you enjoyed it, Neela — we can't wait to welcome you back!

Rooted Route was a trip that truly exceeded my expectations! Amazing sightseeing with a good mix of city, and nature. We got to see both the modern and historical parts of China, both which are amazing to see. Everyone on this trip was so incredibly kind, funny, and easy to get along with. It was so easy to connect with everyone since we all share such the experience of being adopted. I love getting to know all of our guides as well! This tour was an experience. I’ll never forget!
