So this past Sunday, the Summer’s Way Foundation was filled with joy at 2 separate gymnastics events in Colorado.
The first one occurred at a gym that Summer participated with since she was 8 years old, Achieve Sports led by the most amazing coach and co-owner with his wife Chris, Mr. Allen Herron. Allen once again elected to donate to a favorite charity rather than provide trophies to the participants. Each team and the gymnasts would of course get recognition and certificates, but the money normally spent on trophies, in his words “that only collect dust” could be put to better use. He and his wife selected the Summer’s Way Foundation for the donation.
Thank you Allen and Chris for your ongoing support and life lessons given to our daughter, Summer and so many you coach!

The second event occurred at Denver University where the DU women gymnasts held a team meet against Iowa State. The event featured “My Ribbon, My Reason. Three of the participants chose childhood cancer. The Summer’s Way Foundation along with its enthusiastic volunteers, set up a booth to bring awareness for childhood cancer.
We featured a crafts area where kiddos attending and the not so young, could creatively paint their own starfish, which is of course the Summer’s Way logo, and receive a copy of “ The Starfish Story”. If you haven’t read it you must. It’s all about making a difference one starfish/person at a time!
Enjoy some photos from both events:)

During childhood cancer awareness month I was asked to share the one thought I didn’t know about childhood cancer when Summer was diagnosed. This is what I didn’t know!

Yesterday, the Summer's Way Foundation and its most committed and enthusiastic volunteers teamed up to support the Cancer League of Colorado's 'Race for Research'. The Cancer League has been instrumental in supporting so many individuals affected by cancer in Colorado. In addition to their remarkable funding for cancer research, the organization also provides support to community nonprofits that provide many of the unmet resources for those impacted by cancer. We appreciate their support, especially with our 'Wigs Program', which offers complimentary, tailored hair pieces to any child receiving care at our regional children’s hospitals.

In a world where cancer seems to impact everyone directly or indirectly, Summer’s Way is forever grateful to our amazing donors, the support from the Cancer League of Colorado and our partnership with Hana Designs, designer If the wigs.

BTW it was a most joyful day, Summer’s Way was pleased to provide the race participants and their families fun filled hula hoop contests, best ever popcorn, and many smiles!
