Still processing what was truly a transformative experience at the Black Male Educators Capitol Summit in Washington, DC.

The summit opened with a stirring plenary from Shawn Joseph on Critical Consciousness in Mind, setting a bold and reflective tone for the gathering. His message underscored that our leadership must be anchored in clarity, bravery, and a steadfast devotion to the communities we serve. He pushed us to examine our identity, interrogate our leadership, and embrace the profound responsibility we hold as Black male educators in this defining season.

The Colorado Men of Color Collaborative (CMOCC) was privileged to facilitate Recharge & Restore: Men’s Mental Health and Wellness for Educators — a session grounded in restoration, longevity, and authentic brotherhood. The depth of participation, the honesty shared, and the openness in the space reinforced a powerful truth: our well-being is not indulgent — it is indispensable.

The Call Me MiSTER Program at Metropolitan State University of Denver is excited to host the second annual A.F.R.O. Leadership Summit (Aiming for Racial Opportunity) on Friday, April 4, 2025. This event is tailored for male students in grades 6-12. Our summit aims to address the challenges young males, especially African American boys, face in public education. Notably, many of these students go through their entire K-12 education without having African American male teachers. The summit offers a range of topics, including brotherhood, leadership, manhood development, the value of education, cultural awareness, and self-esteem. Our goal is to provide a space that educates, empowers, and inspires these young men to overcome challenges and excel in life.

Congratulations to CMOCC Brother - Dr. Jason H. Lester, MSW, SWC, MS

Dr. Lester has been selected to serve as the Director of Human Services for the City of Oakland. This opportunity reflects his commitment, and the confidence that preparation eventually meets purpose.

His work in Oakland will be meaningful, focused, and deeply rooted in advancing support for children, families, and older adults. This chapter is a blessing, and we are excited for what is ahead. JasonLester Smolders UpwardMobility
