🌟 Happy National Senior Citizens Day! 🌟
Today, we’re celebrating the incredible older adults who continue to show us that aging isn’t about slowing down. It’s about finding new purpose, sharing wisdom, building connections, and making an impact.

Through Spark’s Empowering Aging Programs, our AmeriCorps Seniors Volunteers put that belief into action every day. 💜 Last year alone, our senior volunteers contributed more than 42,000 hours of service, providing an estimated $1.5 million in value to Colorado communities!

That’s not fading out. That’s showing up, giving back, and making a difference, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the time, talent, experience, and heart our volunteers bring to their communities.

During Older Americans Month in May, we raised $3,000 for volunteer mileage reimbursement, but that only scratched the surface! Want to be part of this amazing work? Give a gift to support our amazing senior volunteers today: coloradogives.org/donate/sparkthechangecolorado

“We are standing on an amazing moment in history. For the first time, there are more people on Earth over the age of 65 than there are toddlers under 5. Yet news headlines worry about a scary silver tsunami. They are treating a great human victory like a natural disaster. Calling long life a crisis is a huge mistake. In reality, we have built a world where growing old in good health is our greatest achievement. We have unlocked a brand new chapter of life. This isn’t a time for fading out. It’s a time for new purpose, creativity, and goals.” -Constituent in Tulsa, OK.

🌡️ During Denver Metro’s recent heat wave, our Senior Companion Program gathered to learn how extreme temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and other serious health risks. Our AmeriCorps Seniors Volunteers also learned about current work and volunteering requirements for people receiving Medicaid, SNAP, and TANF benefits.

Thank you to Cynthia Farrar with Jefferson County Public Health for providing Heat Action Plans and cooling towels, and Project Helping for providing fans. At Spark, we know our volunteers are trusted sources of information and connection in their communities. We’re grateful they’re equipped to help their clients, families, friends, and neighbors stay informed, prepared, and safe. 💜
