WindyHill Equine Rescue and Rehoming is a rescue organization that specializes in saving horses that for reasons unknown, find themselves in the dire situation of being on kill lot awaiting imminent shipment outside of the US for slaughter. According to the Humane Society, approximately 160,000 horses are shipped through our Mexican and Canadian borders every year to be slaughtered for human consu

mption. We believe that no horse deserves this fate and that all of them deserve a second chance. Many of these horses still have much to offer to a caring owner. Unfortunately, until something changes to eliminate export for slaughter countless horses will face this tragic and horrible death. As a rescue organization we strive to save these horses and work to medically rehabilitate, professionally retrain, and permanently rehome them with loving, responsible owners. Sadly, we are only able to save a tiny fraction of these innocent creatures. The horses that we rescue have gone through quarantine, had their feet trimmed, been vaccinated, wormed, vet checked and treated as needed. Also, and perhaps most importantly, they've been loved on and pampered for their emotional trauma and partially retrained as needed. Our mission is to rescue a lucky few with hopes of finding them loving permanent homes, and to raise awareness of their desperate origins so that we can finally end the cruel and inhumane fate that so many other horses will continue to face.
