A REAL 'BLAST' FROM THE PAST!

A Boeing B-47 Stratojet blasting skywards with full JATO assist is truly a sight to behold! With all of that visual spectacle, plus the deafening sound, the smell, the heat, this really would have to have been a massive assault to the senses.
I first got to see a B-47 when it visited Adelaide, South Australia when I was very little. It was RAAF Base Edinburgh, and the aircraft seemed huge to me. My Dad was impressed, so I was even more so!
It is interesting to consider that the first flight of one of these took place in 1947, just over two years after the end of the Second World War!! It shows how rapidly technology had advanced during those years of conflict.
Boeing built just over 2,000 of these and today, around two dozen survive.

1941 DKW NZ500 | Germany 🇩🇪

In the 1930s DKW launched the NZ series of motorcycles, radically different from previous models.

The redesigned engine got a chain motor gear under the aluminum cover, the gearbox became a four-speed, and in addition to the manual gearshift there was a foot-operated gearshift. The frame was now based on a heavy, welded front envelope with two rear cross-members. The central electric switch was also moved to the gas tank, which became much larger than on previous models. The front fork now had welded forks.

The NZ 500 with 489 ccm engine rated 18.5 hp at 4200 rpm also featured a new rear suspension, which could be adjusted depending on whether the machine was used with a sidecar or as a single.

Compared to the other motorcycles in the series, the NZ 500 was much less common. Most of the produced motorcycles of this model were "conscripted" to serve in the Wehrmacht troops. They were used in solo and sidecar versions in the cavalry, military police and SS units.
