Trail Life GA-2678 Meeting Recap - Picnic in the Park! ☀️🌭🍉

With summer well underway and the days getting longer and hotter, we decided it was the perfect time to trade the classroom for the great outdoors.

This week we gathered at Seaborn Jones Park in Historic Downtown Rockmart for a picnic and some good old-fashioned fun. The menu was hard to beat: hotdogs, chili, watermelon, cookies, chips, cake, and plenty of cold drinks. If anyone went home hungry, it was their own fault!

The boys spent the evening doing what boys do best and that's playing and eating snacks. Footballs and frisbees flew through the air, shoes were kicked off, and before long everyone was splashing around in the creek trying to stay cool. There may have been more water outside the creek than in it by the end of the evening.

What made the night special wasn't just the food or the games. It was seeing old friends reconnect, welcoming new friends who came to visit, and spending time together building the friendships and fellowship that make our troop feel like family.

"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." - Proverbs 17:17

As we celebrate the upcoming holiday, we will not have another meeting until Monday, July 13, when we'll be back at Camp Antioch Polk - Haralson for more adventure, learning, and fun.

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. Spend time with family, make some memories, enjoy the summer sunshine, and we'll see you soon.

Until then...

Yesterday we had the honor to set up at the annual Polk County Kid's Fishing Rodeo. There were 533 children registered to fish this year and we had a blast.

The weather was perfect, fish were biting and we were able to spread some awareness about our troop to the people of our community.

If you would like more information about our troop, would like to participate or offer support, please reach out.

Trail Life GA-2678 Goes Tractor Pulling! 🚜💨

Saturday afternoon we had the honor of being invited by the Polk County Pullers to attend their Garden Tractor Pull at the Polk County Fairgrounds, and let me tell you it did NOT disappoint!

The weather was beautiful, and before the competition started, we got to walk through the pits checking out all the wild tractor builds and talking with the builders. These were definitely not your average lawnmowers. Some of these machines looked like they belonged on a race track instead of a backyard!

Then came the surprise.

After the drivers' safety meeting, we registered all of the boys to compete in a REAL tractor pull! The Polk County Pullers lined up several tractors for us to choose from, gave everyone a quick lesson on how things worked, and then turned our Trailmen loose on the track.

The boys competed in the 10-12 HP, 23-inch tire classes, and they had an absolute blast. There were smiles, laughter, a few nervous looks, and a whole lot of cheering from the sidelines.

Afterward, we got to watch some of the more powerful tractors compete. It was incredible to see those machines hook to the sled, dig in, and power down the track. A few even carried the front wheels through parts of the pull! The horsepower, engineering, and skill involved were impressive.

Most importantly, we got to spend time together, try something completely new, and make some great memories. We are incredibly thankful to the Polk County Pullers for being such gracious hosts and for giving our boys an experience they won't soon forget.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." - Joshua 1:9

Sometimes the best adventures happen when you step outside your comfort zone and try something you've never done before. Whether it's driving a tractor, meeting new people, learning a new skill, or chasing a dream you've always had, don't be afraid to take that first step. You never know where it might lead.

If you're looking for a fun Saturday activity, check out the Polk County Pullers on Facebook and come watch a pull. Who knows—you might even leave wanting a tractor of your own!
