Summer's in the air! With school out for the season, our recreation team kicked off Fun Fridays last week to help residents stay engaged and make memories during this formative time in their lives.

A special thank you to The United Women in Faith of Waleska UMC for coming to campus and providing a meal for the kids, along with activities throughout the day, including outdoor games, prizes, crafts, and an inflatable water slide.

Our equine therapy program follows an innovative, hands-on approach to treating those with dealing with trauma. But how does it work?

Horses are sensitive to body language and energy, so as our residents spend more time around the horses, they learn that managing their emotions and remaining calm leads to more successful and meaningful interactions. For many children in our care, the stable becomes a place that immediately brings a sense of peace. 💛🐴

Part of our mission at Murphy-Harpst is to help support the youth in our care as they look towards the future! For many, they express interest in taking on new responsibilities by getting a part-time job to learn valuable life skills and help unlock future opportunities. We're proud when we see this kind of growth in our residents, whether it's getting a job at Kroger or expressing the desire to help out around campus, we know they're focusing on their path to success. 👏

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re reflecting with one of our on-campus therapists, Rylee Shade, on what progress can look like for the youth at Murphy-Harpst. 💛

Many children in the foster care system spend so much time focused on surviving the present that it can feel difficult to imagine the future. Rylee shared that, from her perspective, progress can look like a child beginning to think ahead and talk about goals, dreams and what life could look like beyond today.

Through therapy, trusted relationships and consistent support, residents can begin working through heavy emotions and uncertainty with our team, taking steps toward hope, stability and a future full of possibility.

Caps off to these 2026 graduates! We’re incredibly proud of the hard work these students put in to keep moving forward and graduate from our on-campus school, Murphy-Harpst Academy. The future can often feel uncertain for many foster youth, and our team at Murphy-Harpst is dedicated to supporting their growth and healing, helping set them up for success!

We’re incredibly grateful to these volunteers from the University of Georgia Wesley Foundation for spending part of their summer with us at Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center! 💛

Throughout last week, these students dedicated their time and energy to serving across our campus, supporting our recreation team during summer activities and helping tackle projects that advance important initiatives for the youth we serve. Beyond everything they accomplished, their kindness, enthusiasm, and willingness to invest in our community made a lasting impression.

Thank you, UGA Wesley Foundation, for choosing to serve alongside us. 💛 We hope to see you again!

A simple task like setting out hay can be part of something much bigger. 🐴 Through our equine therapy program, residents learn responsibility and care for others, which supports their own growth and healing.
