Link to a YouTube video discussing a soft market for high-end boats, including some popular wakeboat models. Nothing earth shattering but with higher fuel prices and what looks to be a saturated used market is the bloom is coming off the Covid era wakeboat boom?

Just a reminder for the fundraiser in Winneconne this Thursday, July 30th. Come out and meet our true lake champions and let them know you support their commonsense wakeboat regulation!

Hi Folks - we wanted to tell you about a very important event coming up on July 30th. Two state legislators who were critical to stopping the wakeboat industry bill will be having a fundraiser in Winneconne.

State Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara and Representative Nate Gustafson were lake champions for us in helping defeat the bad industry bill. They also bucked leadership and were the lead sponsors of the good bill in the Senate and the Assembly.

Winneconne is about 15 miles northwest of Oshkosh and if you live in the area or even 40-50 miles away and could make it, we'd love that. These two legislators have been and will be critical to preventing the wakeboat industry from introducing their bad bill again next session. Please join us on July 30th at Fin 'n' Feather and show your support!

When we talk about how deeply embedded the wakeboat industry's lobbyists are in Madison, we mean it. That's why we're constantly fundraising—to ensure we have the resources to stay engaged at the Capitol and protect Wisconsin's lakes.

The press release below highlights the industry's latest efforts in Connecticut. Last summer, voters in the three towns surrounding Lake Waramaug overwhelmingly supported banning wake-enhanced boating on the lake. Their decision came after the Lake District spent a year studying the issue and conducting independent testing with Wisconsin-based Terra Vigilis

The industry recognized what this could mean for wakeboat sales and responded quickly. It began investing heavily in lobbying efforts and succeeded in getting its model "200-foot bill" introduced—a proposal that would eliminate local control and overturn the Lake Waramaug ordinance.

How do they build support for legislation like this? By taking lawmakers out for a day on the water. In Connecticut, legislators were invited to experience wakeboats on Candlewood Lake, a 5,420-acre manmade reservoir with depths of 40 to 80 feet—conditions that are very different from the many smaller glacial lakes found throughout Wisconsin.

It's a familiar strategy. Here in Madison, legislators are often taken on outings on 9,700-acre Lake Mendota, another exceptionally large lake that can accommodate wake-enhanced boating in ways that many smaller lakes cannot.

The bottom line is this: the wakeboat industry is facing growing challenges in a number of states, including Wisconsin. In response, it is spending millions of dollars to oppose protective regulations and limit local decision-making.

That's why Lakes at Stake exists—to serve as your collective watchdog and advocate for Wisconsin's lakes.

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend on the water!

Last week, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), in partnership with Candlewood East Marina, hosted Connecticut state lawmakers on Candlewood Lake for an on-water wakesurfing demonstra

ICYMI - Underwater testing of a wakeboat at 16 foot depth. Watch the full three minutes of the clip to truly appreciate how much underwater and bottom disturbance takes place.

This particular area used to have taller aquatic vegetation but most has been blown out in recent years. What remains is very short vegetation which is doing its best to hold together the bottom sediment.

Please share this video far and wide. The fishing community especially needs to understand what is happening to fish habitat from these impacts.

We did some wakeboat testing and captured amazing underwater footage, all consistent with the University of Minnesota Phase II study.

Watch it on a big screen and note it takes some time for the sediment storm cloud to develop.

Share the clip far and wide! Happy 4th!

The Minnesota show Prairie Sportsman did a nice overview piece on the wakesurfing situation in the Midwest. The main researchers from St. Anthony Falls Laboratory - SAFL talk about their research work.

If you have friends not familiar with the wakesurfing issue this is a great primer for them to watch. Please share.

The new 2026 model that George is standing in front of has a dry weight of 7,200 pounds and you can add another 4,050 pounds in water ballast to make your surf waves. It holds up to 18 people. A wakeboat dealer in Wisconsin has one in stock for the list price of $426,151.

The boats get bigger and more powerful each year. Unfortunately, the glacial lakes of Wisconsin stay the same size.

Look who stopped by the shop today to look at some boats!! Thanks for coming in George and see you tonight !! 🤝🤠👑

We need to salute the voters in the Town of East Troy. Tonight they elected two new board members, Brian Fons and Ben Smith. A major reason for these two running was the fact the current Town Board did not listen to their constituents last year regarding concerns of damage caused by wake surfing on the lakes in the Township (including Lake Beulah).

At the Town annual meeting last April the residents voted overwhelmingly for the Town to prohibit wake enhanced surfing on all lakes in the Town in an advisory vote. Rather than listen to their voters, the Town Board elected to not take any actions on this front. So new candidates emerged and were strongly supported by the residents as reflected in today’s results.

We salute Brian and Ben for their commitment to protecting the lake resources enjoyed by all in East Troy!
