The Cedar Springs Women's Club has been a strong influence in the community since 1912 when it was founded as a Baptist Social circle. In 1914, Methodist and Congregational ladies were included in the Circle. In 1915, the Club was federated. On June 6, 1989, the membership voted in favor of separating from the General Federation of Women's Clubs and the Club was reorganized as the Cedar Springs Wo
men's Club. In the early days, the Women's Circle had programs centered on social virtues, sewing, flowers and money-raising for mission work. Members were encouraged each year to clean their yards and plant zinnias which was the club flower. Later the Club became a Literary Group. The Club flower was changed to a red rose in 2001 or 2002 and is on the pin currently presented to all new members of the Club. Today, the Women's Club meets for lunch prepared by Hostess Committee, potluck, or catered. Besides the business meeting, a community focus issue is offered and a short program by invited guests is presented on aspects of community and social concern. In addition, the Cedar Springs Women's Club raises money to support many community projects. The women also enjoy several social events throughout the year. Each year, one woman is recognized for her exemplary spirit and contributions during that Club year. Selection is based on the candidate's enthusiasm in the promotion and support of the Cedar Springs Women's club and active community involvement. A woman wishing to join Women's Club must attend at least two meetings before making application for membership. The applicant must sign a statement stating her wish to join and have it co-signed by two sponsors who have been in the Club for at least one year. Any woman wishing to join should check the local newspaper for meeting time and place.
