The Grass Valley Ladies Relief Society helps residents of western Nevada County by providing everything from food and shelter to dental care, diapers and college scholarships. Formed in 1873 by a group of mine owners’ wives who aimed to assist those families whose breadwinners were disabled in mining accidents, the society is one of the oldest charitable organizations in California.
