FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Investment Club Kicks Off 2025–2026 Year, Elects New Officers & Welcomes Alumni Guest Speaker
The Mount Mercy University Investment Club held its first official meeting of the 2025–2026 academic year this week in Basile Hall, launching the year with exciting updates, valuable insights, and newly elected student leaders.
The meeting opened with announcements of an upcoming club trip in May 2026 to attend the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting in Omaha. Seats for this experience are limited, and interested students are encouraged to notify the club advisors as soon as possible to reserve a spot.
The club also welcomed guest speaker Ryne Schooley ’23, who shared a candid look into “a day in the life” of his career and the lessons he wishes he had known before graduation. Schooley emphasized the importance of personal branding and the ability to communicate ideas clearly—skills he considers essential in every professional setting.
He spoke about the value of building trust with clients, developing strong client relationships, and working effectively within a team. Schooley also encouraged students to seek mentors, continue learning, explore investment certifications, and take advantage of early opportunities to build both knowledge and credibility.
The Investment Club extends a special thank you to Ryne for returning to campus and investing in our students’ success.
Professor Ny-Oka Sokol provided the club’s portfolio update, reviewing current positions and performance. Members will continue discussing the portfolio—along with opportunities for potential sales and purchases—at the next meeting on December 3 from 3:30–5:00 p.m. in Basile Hall 300.
Before adjourning, the club held officer elections for the 2025–2026 year. Congratulations to the following student leaders:
President: Cole Eberly '26
Vice President: Keaton Ostrowski '28
Secretary: Kendra Mescher '28
Treasurer: Marco Valencia '29
Students interested in joining the Investment Club are encouraged to attend the next meeting or contact Professor Christa Nelson to be added to the group.
