In celebration of the start of fall semester, we're throwing it back to Sept. 2, 1970. A record number of students (1,100) proved parking spaces to be inadequate, and a traffic jam resulted at the college entrance on Highway 30 and Bowling Street.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Lois Bartelme. Lois served on the Kirkwood Board of Trustees from 1995-2017, including 14 years as Board Chairperson. Her passion for education shaped countless lives, and she will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-6 p.m. on September 27, in the Atrium at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center.

Dr. Lois Ann Bartelme, age 85 of rural Crawfordsville, formerly of Coralville, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at her home. Born on April 6, 1941, at Framingham Union Hospital in Framingham, Massachusetts, Lois was the daughter of Dr. John and Arlene (Hilliard) Ruggles. In 1958, she graduated...
