Missed yesterday's pop-up sale? 😬 No worries! Our volunteers will be back the same hours this Friday, Sept. 4, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the JE Halvorson House, 606 Fifth Ave. SE.

Our monthly salvage sales have been on hiatus this summer as we turned our attention to our historic Zastera Pharmacy building. That work is continuing, but if you need a vintage door, sink, window or other architectural salvage, stop by the J.E. Halvorson House, 606 Fifth Ave. SE, this Tuesday, Sept. 1, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and volunteers will be there to help find what you need. πŸ€“ Cash or check only. Proceeds benefit work on the Zastera Pharmacy in NW CR.

Such a gorgeous day to learn about CR history in the lovely Shakespeare Garden from the always enlightening Mark Stoffer Hunter.😎 The crowd of more than 50 people included a member of the Dlask family, owners of the former grocery store in the Time Check Neighborhood, who offered her insights, and root b**r floats were served in honor of the beloved A&W, sadly demolished after the 2008 flood.πŸ˜” Our thanks to Friends of Shakespeare Garden for letting us give an update on our historic Zastera Pharmacy, and to those who shared memories of the pharmacy, which we love to hear! ❀

On our road trip yesterday, we ran into an old friend: the olive green pocket door we rescued from the house behind the Music Loft several years ago.

A few of our board members took a road trip today to find inspiration as we transform our historic Zastera Pharmacy building into a salvage shop and community hub! Preservation Station in Burlington has two four-story buildings 😻 while The Salvage Barn in Iowa City is similar in size to our forthcoming storefront on Ellis Boulevard NW. We often refer customers to both places as well as Mills Seed Co. Building in Washington, Iowa, if they can't find what they're looking for at our J.E. Halvorson House.
