Today, we recognize World Narcissistic Abuse Awareness Day. πŸ’œ
And we want every survivor to hear this: your experience is real, your pain is valid, and you are not invisible.
For survivors in the Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard of hearing community, narcissistic abuse can be compounded by barriers to communication, isolation, and a lack of accessible resources. You deserve to be seen, believed, and supported.
πŸ’š Thrive Together Today is here. If you or someone you know needs help, reach out. We are committed to meeting survivors where they are, in every language and every modality.

Thrive Explains: Narcissism & Narcissistic Abuse
The word "narcissist" gets thrown around a lot, but what does it actually mean? And when does narcissistic behavior cross the line into abuse?
Narcissistic abuse is one of the most misunderstood and underrecognized forms of domestic violence. It does not always leave visible marks. It operates through manipulation, gaslighting, isolation, and cycles of idealization and punishment that leave survivors confused, exhausted, and doubting their own reality. And because narcissistic abusers are often charming and convincing to the outside world, survivors are frequently not believed, even by the people closest to them.
At Thrive Together Today we know that for Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and DeafBlind survivors, these dynamics can be even more isolating. Communication barriers and limited access to outside support can make it easier for an abusive partner to maintain control, and harder for a survivor to reach out for help.
Swipe through to learn the difference between narcissistic traits, NPD, and narcissistic abuse, and what you can do if any of this sounds familiar. You are not overreacting. You are not too sensitive. What you experienced was real. πŸ’š

Sign Together ✨ Week 26: SIBLINGS
Family month continues and this week we are signing SIBLINGS. πŸ’š
Siblings can be some of the most formative relationships in our lives. They can be our greatest protectors, our closest confidants, and our earliest friends. And like all close relationships, sibling bonds can also be complicated; shaped by shared trauma, family dysfunction, or the unique challenges that come with growing up in a home that was not always safe.
Whether your siblings are biological, chosen, or somewhere in between: this one is for all of them. πŸ’š

On this Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave everything in service to this country. πŸ’š
We also want to take a moment to acknowledge that the military community is not immune to domestic violence and sexual assault. In fact, survivors in military families often face unique barriers when it comes to accessing help, including isolation, fear of career consequences, and limited access to outside support systems. For Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and DeafBlind service members and veterans, those barriers can run even deeper.
Today we remember those we have lost, and we recommit to showing up for those who are still here and still fighting battles of their own. πŸ’š
You are not alone.

Thrive Explains: Foster Care & Deaf Children
May is National Foster Care Month and for Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and DeafBlind children in the system, the challenges run deeper than most people realize.
Nearly 329,000 children are in U.S. foster care right now. Many of them are Deaf children placed in homes where no one can communicate with them. That silence isn’t just isolating, it’s harmful.
At Thrive Together, we serve Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and DeafBlind survivors of violence, including those whose stories started in the child welfare system. This month, we’re shining a light on a community that is too often overlooked.
Swipe through to learn the facts and how you can help. πŸ’š

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and today we are wearing green in solidarity with everyone who has ever faced, survived, or supported someone through a mental health journey. πŸ’š
For survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, mental health is not a separate conversation; it is part of the same one. Trauma leaves marks that go far beyond the physical, and healing looks different for everyone. At Thrive Together Today we recognize that supporting survivors means supporting the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.
This month and every month, we see you. We support you. And we are here. πŸ’š
You are not alone.

Sign Together ✨ Week 25: FAMILY
We just celebrated International Day of Families, and this week's sign feels like a perfect way to keep that conversation going. πŸ’š
Family looks different for everyone. The one you were born into. The one you chose. The friends who became your people when you needed them most. The community that caught you when things fell apart. Found family is real family, and for many survivors, that chosen circle has been a lifeline.
No matter what your family looks like, you deserve to be surrounded by people who make you feel safe, valued, and loved.πŸ’š

Thrive Explains: Deaf Kids with Hearing Families
Did you know that more than 90% of Deaf children are born to hearing parents? That means the majority of Deaf and hard-of-hearing children grow up in homes where American Sign Language is not yet known, and where access to their most natural language is not guaranteed from day one.
Language access is not just about communication. It shapes how a child learns, connects, thinks, and sees themselves in the world. And when that access is delayed or absent, the effects ripple into every area of a child's life: academically, socially, and emotionally.
Swipe through to learn more about what the research tells us about Deaf children in hearing families, what language deprivation really means, and what hearing parents can do to give their Deaf child the strongest possible foundation.
