Here's a photo of the progress Am Vets Post 6 has made on the ramp we're installing to make it easier for some of our more physically challenged members to access the Post. Thanx Riders Chapter 6 President Paul Nelson and Sons Squadron 6 Vice Commander Mark Bennett Sr. for all the volunteer time you're putting in. Also, Sons Squadron 6 Commander Ronnie Hoffman said the Sons will purchase the non-skid paint for the ramp. Thanx again to all involved!

I want to thank Am Vets Post 6 2nd Vice / Riders Chapter 6 president Paul Nelson and Sons Squadron 6 Vice Commander / Am Vet Rider Chapter 6 Finance O. Mark Bennett Sr. for their work installing a ramp at our Post so our more physically challenged veterans will have easier access to the Post.
(NOTE: The hand railings will be installed soon.)

Bought 3 dozen ears of corn from my Fairfax Sweetcorn guy. He's set up at the gas station on the southeast corner of Johnson Ave. and Edgewood Rd. SW. Only $7.00 a dozen for 14 ears. White and yellow kernels and my hands were sticky by the time I'd shucked the first dozen. He doesn't have a full load so I bet he'll sell out by noon.

It's with a heavy heart I must report, Am Vets Post 6 Life Member Ronald B. Williams passed away on July 8, 2026. Ron "The Chief" Williams enlisted in the Navy in 1973 at the age of 17 years-old, retiring in 1993 as a Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9).

Alongside five other Vietnam veterans, Ron helped establish the Linn County Veterans Charity Fund, serving as its driving force for 12 years. Under Ron's leadership, the organization raised more than a quarter million dollars to assist veterans and their families throughout Linn County, IA.

Please keep Ron and his family in your thoughts and prayers. He will be missed.

Am Vet Riders Chapter 6 President Paul Nelson and I did a TV interview this morning on WMT / CBS Channel 2 regarding our Am Vet Riders Chapter 6 Motorcycle Bug Run XIV Saturday, May 30th. The spot will tentatively air tomorrow, Friday May 29th at 0700 and noon.

DJ's Auto Service / Sales (Thanx Jerimy Matheny!) is now a sponsor of Am Vet Riders Motorcycle Bug Run XIV A.K.A. Am Vets Post 6 27th Annual Veterans Fundraiser Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Ride starts at Cassill Motors 2939 16th Ave SW, Cedar Rapids. Registration is 0900, kickstands up at 1000 hrs. A $20.00 per person entry fee includes One Bug Target. Additional targets - $5.00 each.

Bug Splat Prizes: $100.00 for bug splat closest to target center and $100.00 for biggest bug splat on target. Giveaways, 50/50s, Silent Auction and more!

Tentative Route: Wolfey's - Quasqueton, PrairieMoon on Main (Lunch Stop) - Prairieburg, Thirsty on 30 - Stanwood, the Double Z Bar & Grill - Cedar Rapids.
