Our Pathway to Success Youth Mentoring Program connects youth with caring mentors who can provide guidance, encouragement, and support as they navigate school, career goals, personal development, and their future.

Through meaningful mentorship and positive relationships, we’re creating opportunities for young people to:

✨ Explore their interests, strengths, and career possibilities
✨ Develop meaningful connections with positive role models
✨ Set goals and take steps toward their future

🌟 We’re getting started, and we need our community behind us.

Our Pathway to Success: Youth Mentoring Program has officially launched, marking the beginning of a year-long effort to support young people as they grow, connect, and work toward their goals.

We’ve secured $61,000 of our $89,000 fundraising goal and are working to close the remaining $28,000 gap.

🚗 Another Group of Future Iowa Drivers Is on the Road to Success!

This September, United We March Forward began another cohort of our Driver Education Program.

Our students will complete more than 30 hours of classroom learning, including in-depth driver education videos and instruction focused on Iowa traffic laws, rules of the road, basic vehicle maintenance, and financial literacy.

But learning does not stop in the classroom. Students will also practice using our driving simulator before gaining experience in a real vehicle.

Our goal is not simply to help someone get a driver’s license. We want participants to understand what it means to be a knowledgeable, responsible, and financially prepared driver.

As our Executive Director, Mugisha Gloire, explains:

“We provide this program to adult immigrants and refugees in languages they understand, not because we are giving special treatment, but because those of us who can easily speak, read, and understand English have an advantage that we sometimes take for granted.

This is an underserved population. Our goal is to make sure newcomers have the knowledge and resources they need to contribute to the community they now call home. When we help create knowledgeable, responsible, and safe drivers, our students benefit and so does everyone who shares Iowa’s roads.”

Education creates independence. Independence creates opportunity. And safer drivers benefit all of us.

At United We March Forward, our work is centered on hope through education, encouragement, and empowerment. From helping individuals build practical skills to creating opportunities for young people and families, we continue working toward a stronger, more connected community.

The work may happen one program, one conversation, and one person at a time, but every step matters.

What an amazing week at United We March Forward!

After a short holiday pause, our 10 Sewing Empowerment Workshop participants returned ready to learn, create, and continue developing their sewing skills. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and commitment as they picked up right where they left off.

Earlier in the week, we also welcomed a group of young leaders from St. Paul’s United Methodist Church to our Grow Pamoja Urban Garden. Together, they learned about Iowa’s agricultural practices, explored the importance of community gardening, and even harvested amaranth (Lenga Lenga), a nutritious leafy vegetable enjoyed in many African cultures.

Moments like these remind us that learning happens in many forms. Whether it’s developing a new vocational skill, growing fresh food, or building relationships across cultures and generations, every experience strengthens our community.

Thank you to our participants, volunteers, and partners for making this week one of learning, growth, and connection.

Today, if you walk into the sewing room, you’ll hear laughter, the snip of scissors, the swoosh of measuring tape, and conversations filled with curiosity and encouragement.

Every table is busy. Every student is focused. Every stitch is another step forward.

Our ten students are in the exciting stage of dreaming and shaping what their garments will become. They’re learning how to turn an idea into something they can wear, share, and be proud of. It’s a process that takes patience, creativity, and confidence, and each week those qualities continue to grow.

More than sewing, this is about learning a skill, building community, and discovering that creating something with your own hands is incredibly empowering.

One pattern. One cut. One stitch at a time.

We can’t wait to see their finished creations. 🧵✨
