🎁 Help Make the Holidays Brighter for Iowa’s Children! ❤️

The holiday season is a time for joy, hope, and belonging—and together, we can help make it special for children and families across Iowa!

Four Oaks invites you to support Four Oaks Holiday Wishes for Children bringing holiday magic to children in foster, adoptive, and kinship care, residential treatment, and other community-based programs.

✨ There are three meaningful ways to make a difference:

🎁 Sponsor a Child’s Wish List — Sign up to provide two meaningful gifts for a child. Wish lists include ages, interests, and suggested gift ideas, with a goal of approximately $50 per child for both gifts.

💝 Make a Financial Donation — Your gift helps provide holiday celebrations, essential items, special activities, and gifts for children who join our programs during the holiday season.

🙌 Volunteer Your Time — Help shop for gifts, sort donations, or bring holiday cheer to celebrations and events with Santa. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Whether you participate as an individual, family, business, workplace, faith community, or organization, every act of generosity helps a child feel valued, remembered, and cared for.

The Words We Use Matter!

The language we use when talking about adoption matters. Being mindful of our words helps create a more respectful and supportive environment for everyone touched by adoption.

Consider using adoption-positive language:

✅ Birth parent instead of real parent
✅ Child placed for adoption instead of unwanted child
✅ Made an adoption plan instead of gave up

It is also important to remember that every person's adoption experience is unique, and individuals may have their own preferences regarding the language used to describe it. When in doubt, the best thing to do is ask.

TAC provides training on the importance of adoption-positive language and other adoption-related topics.

A big thank you to the Iowa Humane Alliance for hosting their Pet Festival at Harambee House again this year! 🐶🐱 Community members received free pet vaccines, pet supplies, and access to spay and neuter resources. We appreciate this partnership and the positive difference it's making for families and pets in our neighborhood.
