Workshop this Thursday, June 11th, at Cedar Hills Community Church, 6455 E Ave NW, Cedar Rapids. We work from 1p to 4p, come and go as needed.
We'll be packing more kits for Dignity4Girls. We'll also do all the things needed to get the components ready. If you sew, bring a machine. If not, there's always lots to do.
The business we purchased PUL from in Maquoketa still has a lot of colorful PUL and is selling it for $3/yd. If you have any need for any of it, please consider buying some. It's a generous 60" wide. Our team purchased a large quantity last fall. Shipping cost could be prohibitive, but we'd do want we can, to accommodate getting it to you. Only the prints are left.
Send us a note to [email protected].

We truly appreciate what Women's Empowerment-Liberia is doing for girls and women in their country.

Workshop, this Thursday May 21st. At the Cedar Hills Community Church, 6455 E Ave NW, Cedar Rapids. We work from 1p to 4p, come and go as needed.
We are not packing kits this week but have all the basic tasks that need doing. If you sew, bring your machine and we'll be sure you have something to do.
After we received the financial boost last month, we discussed sending money to help with shipping kits to Women's Empowerment. They have struggled to afford the shipping costs. We were able to send Roseline (MPLS contact) a check for $1000. It should cover the cost of most of the kits we've brought to her this year.
Hope to see you this week!

We have another workshop this Saturday, May 9th. Normally it would be a Thursday but May has a lot of graduations and this was the only Saturday available. We work at the Cedar Hills Community Church at 6455 E Ave NW. We work from 1p to 4p. Come and go as you need. We're 99% done with counting and sorting of Waterloo supplies.
We've packed kits the last couple workshops for Women's Empowerment and Dignity4Girls, both in Liberia. In total, we packed 398 kits. BTW we used 796 shields, 796 pairs of underwear and 3,168 liners. We had to pack kits; we were running out of room in our storage area!
Last Sunday I spoke at the Cedar Hills church about our DfG team. Leah put together a picture to show while I spoke, but it didn't get put up. So, I'm sharing it now.
If you sew, bring your machine and we'll have you work on shields or drawstring bags. If you don't sew, we'll keep you busy anyway!
Hope to see you there!

Workshop next Saturday, April 25th, at Cedar Hills Community Church, 6455 E Ave NW, Cedar Rapids. We work from 1p to 4p, come and go as needed.

We've finished sorting the Waterloo deliveries and have just a little quality checking to finish up. If you sew, bring your machine. We're pausing on sewing liner strips until we catch up with finishing liners we've received. Sewists can work on starting drawstring bags or any other item they're trained on.

Non-sewists are always kept busy. We could use some of them for marking the drawstring bags for sewing!

The picture is from a distribution made by Women's Empowerment.
An excerpt from their post "Women Empowerment Forum Liberia, in partnership with the Cedar Rapids Iowa Days for Girls Chapter and In Mary Hands Clinic, successfully conducted a menstrual hygiene management (MHM) and medical outreach in the Center Street Cemetery community. . . . . The engagement was both impactful and deeply moving, offering lived experiences that highlighted the harsh realities many of these women face. It also revealed urgent gaps in access to hygiene services, sexual and reproductive health education, protection programs, and rehabilitation support." They often cite our team as being an important partner with them. It also shows their sense of urgency in helping lift women in dreadful situations. This is why we do, what we do.

Workshop, this Thursday, April 9th, at Cedar Hills Community Church, 6455 E Ave NW. We work from 1p to 4p, come and go as needed.
If you sew, we'll have you starting work on drawstring bags, sewing the DfG tag onto the bag. We have templates, glue and the orange thread that's needed.
Non-sewists are needed for measuring underwear, quality checking the last batch of liners from Waterloo and helping to pack kits for Women's Empowerment. We have 3 boxes packed and need 3 or 4 more boxes done. The ladies taking the kits will be leaving a couple days after the workshop.
We've been sharing all the bounty received from the Waterloo team with the Marion IA team and with Poplar Bluff, MO team. The leader of the MO team arrived on March 25th to pick up what we had sorted (to date). The picture is Coretta with Joan and Beth. Nancy is camera shy, so she took the picture. Coretta's car was FULL.
Hope to see you there!

Workshop, this Saturday, March 21st, at Cedar Hills Community Church, 6455 E Ave NW. We work from 1p to 4p, come and go as needed.
We were very busy again at the last workshop. We packed 125 kits that were taken to IL where they'll wait to be sent to Dignity4Girls in Liberia.
We received our last delivery from Waterloo. It was only slightly smaller than the first 2 deliveries. We'll be spending a lot of time counting and sorting again. There are a lot of different items we'll need to figure out. We may also start packing for Women's Empowerment. The lovely ladies who have transported kits to Minneapolis are going again April 10th. We'll want to send at least 6 boxes with them.

If you sew, we'll keep you busy with flannel strips or with sewing shields. If you don't sew, you know we'll keep you busy!

Workshop next Thursday, March 5th, at the Cedar Hills Community Church, 6455 E Ave NE, Cedar Rapids. We work from 1p to 4p, come and go as needed.
We have a request for kits so we will be packing as many as we can. They'll be headed for Illinois, the first stop before heading for Dignity4Girls in Liberia. Shipping won't happen till September, so we have time to do more kits for them.
We also have been asked to provide more kits for Women's Empowerment in Liberia. We need to know of anyone planning a trip to Minneapolis who can take kits to deliver to them. They also will collect kits until shipping can be arranged.

If you sew, we want to show you a slightly different way to sew shields. It will be using the PUL pieces we received.

If you don't sew, we have plenty of other tasks to keep you busy.

Our next workshop is Saturday, February 21st, at the Cedar Hills Community Church, 6455 E Ave NW, Cedar Rapids. Time is 1pm to 4pm, come and go as needed.
We'll be continuing to sort and count components (we did about 4000 components last workshop!). We'll also have normal tasks to continue working on. Sewists, bring your machines, your skills are always needed!
We'd love to see you there!

Another workshop! Hurray! This Thursday, February 5th we'll be having another workshop. We still have a lot to do, sorting and counting the many items brought from the closed Waterloo team. I'd like to spend time with the new PUL we purchased in December and get some of those bright colors cut up for sewing. The rolls of PUL are 62" long and very heavy, so I'll need help.
The workshop is at the Cedar Hills Community Church, 6455 E Ave NW. We work from 1p to 4p, come and go as you need.
If you sew, please bring your machine and we'll keep you busy. If you don't sew, we'll keep you busy anyway!
