What a wonderful development! Anne has been a longtime supporter of ASJ, so we are confident when we say she will be amazing in this new post. 🎉 Congratulations to Anne Harris Carter and to the African American Museum of Iowa!

The African American Museum of Iowa staff and board are excited to welcome Anne Harris Carter as new Executive Director! Anne brings a professional background spanning government, regulated industries and senior leadership in multibillion-dollar corporations, as well as a personal history of support for many community initiatives. Anne also previously partnered with the Museum and shared family history for the AAMI's 2021-2022 exhibit, 'Mapping Exclusion: Redlining in Iowa.'

Anne will begin her new role May 26. We invite you to join us in welcoming Anne to her new role through a welcome reception at the AAMI (55 12th Ave SE, Cedar Rapids) on Thursday, June 4 from 4-6 PM.

RAPID RESPONSE: Help fill the room as ASJ speaks at tomorrow’s 4 pm CR City Council meeting! Work has stalled toward designing a replacement for the Cedar Rapids Citizen Review Board (CRB, which the City Council disbanded last year and PROMISED to recreate). It has been 5 months since our last meeting! We need the City to know that the community expects them to carry through with their commitment to replace the Board. We hope to restart the redesign work with them next week and they need to know we expect them to be at that table.

In times of unimaginable loss to one of our community members, words often fall short.

In response to last week’s shooting of Saber Bernard, the Marion Alliance for Racial Equity, Advocates for Social Justice, and the Justice and Liberation Coalition invite you to join our community of support for Saber’s family.

While there are unanswered questions and a dire need for advocacy, right now our focus is entirely on enveloping the family of Saber in care, support, and unwavering love. The family’s current needs include funding for funeral expenses, counseling, and lost income as they navigate this tragic injustice.

We ask you to please donate to this GoFundMe.
