Hey PTDL Followers,
It has been a while since PTDL posted anything. I hope everyone had a great spring and summer. The temps have cooled and it's fall y'all which means we are getting closer to Halloween and of course Christmas. Judging by the stores having Halloween and Christmas decorations for sale I think it's ok to start putting up Christmas decorations :D .
PTDL has a big but not so exciting news to share. We will not be doing a light show this year. We are a bummed as well but we will be back for 2027.
Why are we not doing a show this year? There are several factors that made us come to this decision.
1. Basement Remodel. Our family has been in the midst of a basement finish project for a few years. Due to life and unexpected events it has dragged out the process. Between kids events, other family events, church events, vacations, and busted water line in 2025 that caused kitchen and downstairs bedroom damage it has dragged out this project. It has come to a point we would like to reclaim our house back as we had to move items to other parts of the house so work can be done on the basement. If you have done a similiar project you know what I mean. We are feeling the squeeze of everything everywhere. The city would like me to finish this as well :)
2. Other Projects that have been put on hold. Between all the life events I mentioned above there are other small projects that I have never gotten around to doing. You always plan to get to those and this year they need to get done so I will be focusing on those as well.
3. Repairs/ReBuilding of Displays. This spring and summer we had to store the blow molds in the backyard under tarps as we had didn't have quite the storage to put them all away. We always pick up more each year and it was impossible to put them all away. Each year there is always a few blow molds that need attention cause they crack and sometimes shatter from the weather and UV over the years. With us having to store them outside all spring and summer some more got damaged from weather and varmint. I would like to get these addressed plus many need paint jobs to make them new again. I want to put the best versions of the blow molds out for you to enjoy and would like take this next year to get them fixed. We also have some other displays that need to be fixed as well. The repairs would take away from the time to setup and being one-person it would take a lot this year.
4. Chris Needs a Break! Setting up Christmas decorations is physically and mentally exhausting as much as I love doing it. It's a labor of love and I appreciate how much everyone enjoys the show. This is mostly a one-person setup. My kids and wife do help some but majority of the time it's a lot of late nights and weekends up on the roof with a head lamp running cords and lights or sitting on a cold ground putting plugs on wires. Between other things going on, I can only stretch myself so thin. Something had to give and unfortunately it was taking a step back this year from the lights. It would also be nice to go to other light shows without having to wondering if the show kicked off in time or not have to rush back to fix a blown fuse in a controller box. I thank you for understanding.
However all is not lost. I can't just go from a light show to nothing. That would be odd and drive me crazy. I will put out some blow molds and displays depending on availability. I don't know how much I will put out at this point. With that being said I wouldn't mind hearing from you on what your favorite part of the display is from past years and what you would like to see. I will do my best to accommodate. I am trying to avoid the roof this year and getting up high on a ladder. Please comment below.
Updates:
We got a 3rd shed to store blow mold so that will take care of the storage issue. We also got some new blow molds. Some of them are just more of what we have, some are replacing damaged ones, and some are just new to the display. I have also acquired some displays from another show in the area and hope to incorporate them next year. I will also try to get the new blow molds out this year.
We have lived at this house since 2017. Our first year we put out a bear and 2 candy canes on stakes and it has grown to what it is now. 2027 will be our 10th year doing some form of a steady light show or display at this house. My goal is make it the best one yet. We also hope to start collection donations for different charitable organizations as well. We haven't decided which ones but will let you know. We will post about the other light shows in the IC/CR Corridor and we encourage you to go out and support those shows as well. There are quite a few and they do a great job and each one has their own flavor. I do want to repeat we will be back next year. We are not going away forever.
If you are new to the page we welcome you and say hello. Please continue to follow us for updates and information. A big thank you to everyone who has come out over the years and enjoyed the lights. We appreciate each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
Chris, Pine Tree Drive Lights
