Austin Greyhound Adoption

Austin Greyhound Adoption AGA is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding loving homes for retired greyhounds.

AGA's primary goal is to find responsible loving homes for pure-bred greyhounds after life on the racetrack and to acquaint the public with the desirability and availability of greyhounds as pets. AGA is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Our volunteers work very hard to bring you the best possible hound

for adoption. Small dog and cat testing are done so that a better placement may be achieved. Our hounds are taken to AGA's veterinarian immediately upon arrival to be spayed/neutered, heart worm tested, teeth cleaned, vaccinations, nails trimmed & bathed.

🌈 The AGA Family is sad to share that Parker (ST's Parker, 4/21/2013) crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Jan 30th after a battle with cancer. Parker was the beloved hound of Chad Ehresman and family. She was described as their beautiful, quirky, diva! Our thoughts are with Parker's family during this sad time. 🐾

Foster family notes:
Ruby is the sweetest girl. She loves to snuggle and be close to her people. She gets excited for breakfast, walks, and anytime her people come home. Ruby shows her excitement with a tail wag that looks like a helicopter propeller. When she's not following us around the house, she's taking epic naps. She also loves laying in the sunshine and rolling around in the leaves. Ruby is very treat motivated, but she's yet to master her first trick. It's a work in progress! Ruby loves her older foster brother and he tolerates her. She does well around non-greyhound dogs but she's still learning to leave cats alone. She's very observant and wants to investigate (and chase) small things that move quickly. She likes to steal food off the counter, but we've trained that out of her (we think). Ruby is still a bit unsure around larger groups of people, but she'll bravely walk by the local cafe with some gently coaxing. She "squeaks" when initially separated from us, but calms down quickly. We spend about 10 minutes each night helping her settle into bed before going upstairs for the night. Transitions are when she feels most uneasy, but she's learning the routine well!
