A big thank you to Dr Kennedy from Highway 29 Veterinary Hospital. He came and talked to us about large animal medicine. He comes from a tanching background and was able to talk to us about handling of pigs and goats and little about cattle. We learned about the different types of restraint, basic behavior, what happens to piglets in their first three days of life and then he went o er some of the equipment a large animal vet would use. We then headed out to Dr Walden’s house to watch him handle and sedate her pigs. Once they were sleepy, he gave a demo on hoof trimming and teeth trimming!

4H VSCP Spay and Neuter Skills Day photos! Big thank you to Dr Walden and Whitestone Animal Hospital for co-leading this project and dedicating so much time and energy into helping future veterinarians. Another big thank you to all the Drs, Vet Techs, and Interns that volunteered their time to make our event a huge success. 21 students attended to observe, learn, and practice various skills at 6 different stations covering these topics:
1. Anesthesia and Catheters
2. Antiseptics and Disinfectants
3. Instrument Disinfecting
4. Suturing and Instrument ID
5. Working in a Sterile Field and Gowning
6. Spay or Neuter Surgery Observation

-Toured Austin Dog Alliance and learned about the Canine Good Citizenship Test
-How to apply bandages
-Urine tests
-Stool tests
-Types of blood collection tubes

April meeting: water treadmill demo, how to write and read prescriptions, how to count pills, locating medicine bottles and learning what ailments certain meds are used to treat. We also had a quiz game with buzzers to test knowledge on breeds, parasites and organs.

We are so thankful to have such a supportive community. Dr Kennedy from Highway 29 Vet Hospital talk to us about what it is like to be a large animal veterinarian. He went over the different breeds of pigs and all the equipment that they use.
Dianna Smith also came and talked about the importance of early socialization of puppies and different training collars.
