Penny Pines Challenge
Garden Club members across the state of Oregon have been asking how they can help after the devastating wildfires of this year. Several of our National forest areas have been impacted with thousands of acres of forest land destroyed. We have a great solution through National Garden Clubs that will begin to restore those forests in Oregon: PENNY PINES.
A challenge has been issued to all garden club members to chip in.
How can you participate? In your clubs, since we are not meeting face to face, members can make contributions through their club’s treasurer.
Approximately an acre of trees (called a plantation) can be requested for just $68.00. Many members have donated a whole plantation in a specific forest in Oregon that has been devastated. But several members can go together and purchase one plantation (or more). Give the donations to the club Treasurer to collect. The treasurer will then send One check to OSFGC who will order the trees. The form to submit each plantation is on the OregonGardenClubs.org website under “forms”.
Several people are giving plantations in memory of a friend or loved one. Be sure to include the form with each plantation donated so that notification can be sent to people who have been recognized if requested. Otherwise the certificates will be in the name of your Garden Club. Be sure to designate a National Forest on the form.
The Challenge? To collect enough money from October 1, 2020 to May 30, 2021, to purchase 100 plantations, or $6,800. There is no Grand Prize. Just the satisfaction of helping restore Oregon’s forests. If we can collect even more, that is great.
Just in one club, there are already members who have stepped forward and individually committed to buy an acre each. Let’s do this and be proud!
Anyone can give food and clothing, but how many can say they gave a forest?
