Wonder if Cedar Lake will lose any officers to this agency too. 10k more in salary, 4k+ more in longevity pay.
Until this counsel learns to; offer competitive compensation, treat their employees with respect, and stop ignoring safety board overreach, they will continue to lose the quality officers that made this town top 10 safest in the state.

In case you all have not heard, our President, Shaun Meyer, is resigning from the Cedar Lake Police Department. Attached is his resignation letter.

In it, he plainly explains why he left; the lack of pay and benefits offered by the Town of Cedar Lake. We as a lodge have fought and fought for over 3 years explaining the situation.

The Cedar Lake Town Council refuses to listen to us and places the blame on the State, which is a lie.

Now the Town of Cedar Lake is losing a quality officer with over 10 years of experience.

… and he’s not the only one. There are numerous other Cedar Lake officers that are looking to leave as well.

LANE CLOSURES - U.S. 41 in Lake County

Construction on a reduced conflict intersection (RCI) at U.S. 41 and 151st Ave will begin on or after Monday, May 4. For the first week, crews will have lane shifts to conduct pre-phase work, including construction of a temporary ditch to allow drainage within the median.

On or after Friday, May 8, the outside lanes of U.S. 41 will be closed in each direction for phase one construction, and traffic will utilize the inside lanes. During phase one, construction activities will include outside shoulders, turn lanes, truck turning loons, and roadside ditches/storm structures. The approaches at 151st Ave will also be constructed in this phase, resulting in no access to or from U.S. 41 and 151st Ave. 151st Ave will be open at U.S. 41 at the start of phase one until work reaches this area and then will be closed until the traffic switch for phase two.

Traffic will remain in this configuration through mid-July, at which time traffic will switch to the outside lanes for phase two construction. Phase two will include median shoulders, turn lanes, raised median island, and median ditches/storm structures. Phase three will begin in mid-August and will consist of a final resurfacing of the travel lanes.

U.S. 41 will maintain one travel lane in each direction at all times. The median of U.S. 41 will remain closed until the end of phase two. Motorists should stay alert for changing traffic patterns in the area, and follow all traffic directions and signage carefully. Construction will be ongoing through September.

Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to sit down with members of the town council for our annual Meet and Confer. While these meetings are not always highly detailed, this year’s discussion was both meaningful and productive, lasting over an hour.

We presented well-documented concerns regarding ongoing challenges within the Cedar Lake Police Department, supported by clear and factual information. The dialogue was professional, constructive, and ultimately left us encouraged by the tone and direction of the conversation.

We also recognize the difficulties the council faces with state-driven budget constraints. With that in mind, we highlighted the importance of formally recognizing the FOP Lodge as a bargaining unit—an important step toward fostering collaboration, improving communication, and working together more effectively for practical solutions.

Our primary request was straightforward: to be placed on the agenda for an upcoming town council meeting to discuss a Resolution recognizing the FOP Lodge. This recognition would not establish an employee-employer agreement, but rather create a framework for continued dialogue and cooperation.

Overall, this year’s Meet and Confer was a positive step forward. Both sides walked away with a better understanding, and we are optimistic about what lies ahead for the officers of Cedar Lake—and, most importantly, the community they proudly serve.

Brother Sidenbender was a member of our lodge for several years. His dedication to his fellow officers was superb, and he fully supported our events for the youth. He enjoyed cars and electronics, specifically vintage electronics like computers and early video game systems. He will be missed. Thank you for everything, Brett. Rest In Peace.

On last Wednesday (March 11th) the Cedar Lake Board of Safety met for their monthly meeting, and our organization could not be more disappointed in poor decorum, attitudes and behavior of some of it's members. We would first like to acknowledge and thank BOS member David Villalobos for his persistence in addressing an oversight by the BOS during the January election of officers on the BOS. During this meeting Larry Nagy received only 2 votes from the 3 BOS members in attendance. By Indiana law, when only 3 of the 5 members are present, any votes must be unanimous in order to take effect.

During the March meeting Mr. Villalobos presented a letter from the town attorney advising them of this oversight and to have the issue addressed at their next meeting (the letter was drafted in February). After being read the letter, Larry Nagy and Norm Stick tried everything in their power to prevent another vote. Larry later even refused to vote to approve the minutes of the prior meeting because he "didn't want to do anything illegal". They even tried to dismiss the attorney's letter saying that they were advised by the town council that it was OK.

A link of the meeting will be attached below, and we encourage everyone to see how the members of the Board of Safety who are charged with the oversight and regulation of our police and fire departments conduct themselves. These same people who, in the same meeting, question the deputy chief about why people have cars with Illinois license plates at their home. So they want you, the citizens to follow the law, but they don't have to. Two of our council members were present for this meeting and witnessed the entire ordeal, and it will be interesting to see how they address this behavior. Maybe it's time for our community to step forward and express a vote of no confidence for Larry Naggy and Norm Stick.

Please watch the meeting for yourself.
