Every year as we head into Fall, the number of weekly calls & emails we get from horse owners wanting to surrender their horses increases…💔😔😢
A few things I wish those who are ready to off load their horse(s) would think about:

1.) There are more horses in desperate situations thanks to people, than there are rescues & sanctuaries. We are ALL OVERLOADED & I literally cry every time I encounter a horse in need we’re unable to take in.💔

2.) Legitimate rescues/sanctuaries are volunteer run & I can tell you, we’re ALWAYS tired! There are no vacations, days off, sick days, no “ just don’t feel like it today” days. No matter the weather, we’re out feeding, administering supplements/meds, tending to wounds & dealing with emergencies.
If you don’t want to do that for your 1 or 2 horses, think about how difficult it is every time we add another special needs horse to one of our herds!

3.) We get attached to every horse we take in so when the time comes that the horse passes or we have to make the decision to let him go, we go through the pain, grief & heartbreak from losing him.💔

4.) HORSES DO NOT CHOOSE THE KIND OF LIFE THEY HAVE, WE DO. They’re so much more than the sport, ride or work they’re used for...when we choose to have horses for our pleasure, don’t we owe it to them to love & care for them, especially when they’re seniors? Why is acceptable to expect someone else to become our horse’s “soft place to land” because we’re ready to comfortably retire or move on? Horses stress & grieve anytime they’re moved from their home, herd & humans they’ve bonded to.💔😢

Our rescues are not horses someone just “gave” us because they no longer wanted to be bothered with the expense & care of the horse with health issues/ injuries &/or the horse no longer served their purpose.
Our horses have either come from legally seized cases, horses that have been abandoned, physically abused, starved/neglected & owner surrenders that involved either the horses being in danger or the owner being extremely ill, (usually terminally) & unable to care for their horse(s.)
We don’t have unlimited space, help or finances…wish we did…but we can all choose to do better…🥹🦄🐴

My top 3 favorites during barn chores…1.) Ruby 2.) Magnolia 3.) Sapphire🥰
It’s definitely the company that makes our barn my happy place!💜🥰🦄🐴🦄🐴🦄🐴🦄
….and my little helper in the minis area yesterday got the job of grooming, (& creating funny hair dos,) while I mucked p**p…who got the short end of the stick?!😂

Thank you so very much to all who’ve made a donation to help us as we stock up on winter hay & try to pay down our vet bills! 🎁All donations are tax deductible & every penny is going directly to support our rescue residents! Donations can be made via any post donation button, through our website or via personal check.🎁
Also, we are so appreciative to one of neighbors,(who wishes to remain anonymous) for the brand new mini fridge!! Within an hour of posting, we received multiple offers to provide us with a new fridge! I cannot tell you how much that means to us!!!💜💜💜🙏🙏🙏

We’re excited to see our students & volunteers this afternoon & on Saturday! The weather on Saturday is going to be perfect for horsing around!!🥰🐴🦄

🥵Even when it feels like 100+ outside, some things around here are non negotiable… like, making sure everyone is staying hydrated, which calls for extra daily electrolytes, slathering pink noses with sun protection, grooming tangled manes, checking everybody over, fly spray if needed & of course, TREATS!! Today’s special treat was carrots!🥕🥰

🐴🦄Today, Bob also finished moving hay in order to make room for more hay to get us ready for winter. I’m always blown away by how very hard Bob works for the needs of our rescue horses, no matter the weather!🥹

🩸Friends, we have a few REALLY BIG needs right now, 1.) We are expecting more hay within the next few weeks to get our horses through the winter…our annual hay cost is typically between $8,000- $9,000 & we’re in need of donations to help!🩸
2.) our vet bills have continued to accumulate…Kid recently had another vet visit to have his withers X-rayed. We have a vet balance of over $4,000 owed, our annual dental bill included!

3.) Today, we discovered our mini fridge in the tack room has died…along with melted popsicles for our program kids, we also lost our Fall vaccines, I had just purchased for the whole herd, (they need to stay refrigerated & they were completely warm.)😣

💜If anyone has or knows of someone who has a mini fridge they’d be willing to donate or sell at a cheap price, we’re in need!🙏🙏🙏

🙏🎁All donations will be going to help us with hay, vet bills, vaccines & a few arthritis medications/supplements for our a couple of our seniors & last on our priority list a new mini fridge for our tack room.🎁

As a horse sanctuary, donations are difficult to come by, once our horses go through rehabilitation & are looking good, it’s easy to forget how bad off they were & easy to forget the expense of their continued care.

🥹Because we take in the the horses that have life long issues, their care only becomes more expensive as they age.
🎁So if you’re in a position to help by donating a tax deductible gift, please know, that your gift of any amount will be put to good use!

Thank you for your continued support & for following the journeys of our beloved rescue residents!🥹🥰
