We are so thankful for another successful outreach event this past weekend. We started off serving lunch to the residents at UGM. From there we went around the streets of downtown Dallas giving out pre-packed meals and cold water.
While most of the time we have quite a few volunteers and sometimes other organizations with us, this time was a bit different. It was only our immediate family this time. This was probably one of the most rewarding and humbling outreach events that we have hosted.
We were able to be more up close and personal with the residents. We talked to the women and their children and it was so heartwarming. They were so thankful and that is always a great feeling to know we made a certain part of their day good.
S/N: When food is provided by the shelter it's given out in reasonable proportions to ensure there is enough for everyone. In most cases, the residents are not allowed to get seconds due to having to stretch the food. We prepared chili dogs and nachos with a side and dessert for over 100 residents. One young man asked if he could have seconds. My response was "go and get whatever you want". He loved those chilli dogs and he was a young teen so we know teenage boys can eat. I saw how happy he was to get seconds that tears formed in my eyes. After he got seconds some of the other families asked if they could have seconds. I said; "of course" and then the tears flowed. I'm not sure if it was the taste of a good chili dog/nachos or if they were just happy to be able to eat seconds without hesitation. Either way it warmed our hearts.
It was a blessing to be able to afford them that moment! One of the mothers said she remembered us from the last time we came and she was glad to see us again.
Thank you to everyone that donated to or prayed for the success of this event. As always we appreciate your continued support.
