Cedar Falls Snohawks

Cedar Falls Snohawks Cedar Falls SnoHawks Snowmobile Club The Cedar Falls SnoHawks Snowmobiling Club was originally formed in December 1970 in Waverly, Iowa.

Six years later, the club's meeting destination was moved to Cedar Falls as it provided a more central meeting location for its growing members living in Cedar Falls, Hudson, Waterloo, and Evansdale. When snow conditions permit, rides are scheduled locally on the Five Star Trail System. Additionally, the club has sponsored out-of-town rides to such areas as Clear Lake and Cresco in Iowa; Forestvil

le, Brainerd and Grand Rapids in Minnesota; Danbury and Rhinelander in Wisconsin; Yellowstone National Park; Black Hills of South Dakota; and Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Through the years the club has been involved in various community projects working with the Boy and Explorer Scout Troops, providing snowmobiling support in snow related emergencies, working side by side in the "Search and Rescue" team for the Cedar Falls and Waterloo Police Departments, charity involvement such as Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Kidney Foundation, National Heart Association, and Spina Bifida Association of Iowa. Most recently, the club has been involved with the local Younkers store in raising funds for the ISSA Scholarship Foundation and the Funnel Cake stand during the annual Sturgis Falls celebration in Cedar Falls and the Irish Fest celebration in Waterloo.

This week is international snowmobile safety week. With any sport, snowmobiling has its risks and those risks increase when you are not operating your machine safely. As such, we have a few reminders for you:

1. Check the weather forecast before you go. Snowmobiling is a lot of fun, but if freezing rain or a blizzard with white out conditions is brewing, it is better to save the trip for another day.

2. Do NOT operate a snowmobile if you are impaired. Ask a friend to bring you home instead.

3. Let someone know when you go out and when you expect to return. This can help you out significantly if you get into an accident or get lost, especially if you are out alone.

4. Stick to the official trails as they should be well-groomed and ideal for a smooth ride.

5. Tame your need for speed. Driving fast may be a lot of fun but going faster than the speed limit can lead to trouble. Stick to the speed limits and ride to the weather conditions.

Snowmobile trail signs are crucial for everyone's safety, they are not cheap or free, and they are required not only for safety and well being of everyone, but also the Groomers cannot groom on an unmarked trail. Removing them is not just a prank โ€“ it's illegal and dangerous. ๐ŸšซโŒ

Stealing signs jeopardizes the well-being of fellow riders and can lead to serious consequences. ๐Ÿš” Remember, these signs are here to guide us safely through the trails. You can and will be prosecuted for stealing the signs from our trails.

Respect the rules, respect the signs, and enjoy the ride responsibly! ๐Ÿ™Œโš ๏ธ ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ
