Occupy Cedar Valley

Occupy Cedar Valley We Stand in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street Movement and will work until we have an economy that works for all members of the 99%.

General assembly Meetings will be held every Sunday, 5pm at the Wessly Foundation, 2422 College Street. Occupy Cedar Valley is made up of concerned citizens who have different passions, ideologies, and political affiliations but if nothing else the one thing that seems to draw us together is our anger about big money infiltrating almost every facet of our lives. The 99% are not part of the process

. Our voice is stolen through corporate personhood, revolving door policies, and crony capitalism. The wealth disparity creates an oligarchy where 1% of the population steers the destiny of the other 99% without regard to community, environmental, or moral obligations domestically or abroad. We are a group of people willing to stand up against the greed situation, reclaim our democracy, and strengthen our community.

7 years is too long without a raise, like if you think it's time for Iowa to raise its minimum wage.

All hands on deck, we need your voice tonight!
Waterloo City Council Public Hearing on Payday lending Monday April 14th, 5:30pm at the Waterloo Center for the Arts.

Tonight the Waterloo City Council will hold a public hearing on an ordinance that will restrict the locations new payday lenders and pawn brokers can locate within the city of Waterloo. If this resolution is passed they will be restricted from opening within 600 feet of protected areas such as schools, parks, residential zones, liquor stores, governmental buildings, and other pay day lenders/pawn brokers.

This must pass three votes including tonight’s following the public hearing or the ordinance will be dead.
Right now the vote count is tight with council member flopping all over the place. Your testimony and presence tonight will be the deciding factor on whether or not we have a victory for the people, or one for the loan sharks.
Testifying before the city council is easy. It can be as simple as you saying:

“Hello my name is ___________and I live at _________________ and I call on the City council to support and pass this ordinance restricting the location new payday lenders and pawnbrokers can open within our city”

That is really all there is to it, and trust me it will make a difference.

This is insanity and will hurt the economy as et make our slow crawl back to health. Money in the hands of people looking for works goes right back into the economy.
