If you don't have any plans for the evening of July 4th, join the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition for an LGBTQ BBQ! This gathering will take place from 5-8pm at Lookout Park in Cedar Falls. Meats will be provided at the event, but feel free to share a side dish or dessert for the potluck! We ask that you please RSVP by July 1st to make sure there is enough food available. Mark your calendars for our next community Safe Zone Training (SZT) opportunity in June! There will be two training sessions hosted a week apart with the presentations taking place in the Fellowship Hall at St. Timothys United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.

--SZT Part 1: June 21st, 3:30-5:00pm, 3220 Terrace Dr.
--SZT Part 2: June 28th, 3:30-5:00pm, 3220 Terrace Dr.

These Safe Zone Trainings are open to anyone, regardless of your knowledge level related to LGBTQ+ topics! Community trainings are provided free of charge to the public, but donations are encouraged for those that feel called to contribute monetarily as well. The LGBTQ+ Youth Prom earlier this month was a smashing success! It was a pleasure to see all the students attending and having fun at the event. Thank you to everyone that made the youth prom possible, including our wonderful volunteers, drag performers, donors and venue staff working the event! We would also like to specifically recognize Riverview Center for their significant contributions to the prom. ***rjoy

For teens interested in staying connected over the summer, join AFFIRM for their monthly events on June 7th, July 12th and August 9th! Each event will be hosted on a Sunday night from 7:00pm-9:00pm at St. Timothys UMC (3220 Terrace Drive, Cedar Falls).

June 7th: Drag Workshop: This will be our second time hosting a drag workshop where anyone can come learn about the history of drag, what it is, have fun with costumes and makeup, and even take their chance at performing a little. All for fun and just to learn more about q***r culture!

July 12th: Prince of Egypt Watch: With the power of a projector, we will be hosting a showing of the great classic film to discuss the themes, the Biblical story, as well as simply enjoying the gorgeous music and animation!

August 9th: Escape Room
Join us as we transform our usual meeting space into a new world! Get ready for riddles, clues, and secret hiding spots as you try to solve the biggest mystery of the world.

Join us in collaboration with the Cedar Valley Backyard Concert Series (CVBCS) on Saturday, May 30th for a Rave Night featuring DJ Hive Mind and Jackson & Brody! Doors open at 7:30pm with music starting at 8pm.

Mark your calendars on Thursday, June 18th for our second Networking and Nibbles event! The event will be hosted at The Ragged Edge in Cedar Falls from 6pm-9pm. We invite LGBTQ+ folks and allies who are community leaders, business professionals, and/or individuals looking to get connected to join us for an opportunity to network and discuss ways to support one another's work!

Stay for a couple snacks we provide, and the fantastic drinks are on you! There will also be a small presentation you can enjoy about the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition, the work we've done, and what's to come next!

The LGBTQ+ Youth Prom, "Dreams Do Come True", is THIS SATURDAY! For students interested in attending the event, please fill out the RSVP form. The Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition Youth Prom is less than a few weeks away! This is a FREE event for middle and high school students that will take place on Saturday, May 2nd from 7-10pm at the Bien VenU Event Center. Registration is required to attend, so please complete the RSVP form located on our website and Linktree page (found in bio) to confirm!

Here is a testimony from previous prom attendee, Percy Batista-Pedro (he/him): "I went to the LGBTQ+ youth prom my last two years of high school, and I’m so glad I did. The space that the Cedar Valley LGBTQ+ Coalition created for us was magical and revitalizing. The prom is a night to cast aside your mask and fully express yourself to a room of other q***r kids who are excited to meet you. I am forever grateful to the coalition and every volunteer who made it happen for giving me a safe, joyous space to celebrate my identity. I encourage every young person to attend for a night of boisterous music, drag, celebration, and joy!”

We had a blast at the book discussion yesterday for We Deserve Monuments by Jas Hammonds! Thank you to those who attended and engaged in thoughtful discussion together. Stay tuned on our social media if you're interested in future book reads!

In the meantime, Frog & Toad's Book Club continues to meet on the last Sunday of every month from 3-4pm at the Waterloo Public Library! Anyone is welcome to join and connect with others through a shared love of q***r books.
