Benjamin Keith Funk is a junior studying economics at Southern Utah University, School of Business. Ben is from Apple Valley, California and spoke in last fall's TEDxSUU event. Ben’s academic interests include sports economics, theatre, and astronomy. His hobbies include watching sports, hanging with friends, and star gazing.

SPEAKER HIGHLIGHT:

Scott L Wyatt is Southern Utah University’s 16th president. His priorities for SUU are summarized in the University’s vision statement: “Southern Utah University will receive national recognition for its innovations in learning, student success, and providing the best educational experience in the Intermountain West.” Under his tenure, SUU has led Utah’s colleges and universities in student enrollment growth. He has launched the University of the Parks initiative, opened a new veterans center, and started a center for diversity and inclusion. He has also overseen the construction or acquisition of more than $60 million worth of capital improvement projects.

Prior to his appointment as president of Southern Utah University, Scott served as president of Snow College, in Ephraim, Utah, served as a member of the Utah House of Representatives, was a partner in the Logan, Utah law firm, Daines, Wyatt & Jenkins, LLP, Served as the Cache County Attorney, where his work focused on prosecuting homicide, domestic violence, and sexual violence cases, along with leading victim services and educational programs. He earned a J.D. from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law and a B.S. from Utah State University, with a dual major in Philosophy and Economics.

Scott is married to Kathy Wyatt; they have four children and four grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, nature photography, backpacking, climbing the world’s most beautiful mountains, such as Denali (Alaska), Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), and Elbrus (Russia), completing the curriculum for a M.A. in American History and Government, and supporting student events at the university.

I am Rian Watson-Davis from Las Vegas, NV. I was raised in single mother household alongside a twin brother. Soon my family will be extended by adding a stepfather and an older stepbrother. My degree is Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology. I have always been one to speak out about injustices that cross my path. My talk is called Microaggressions: Let It Die To Unify. SPEAKER HIGHLIGHT:

During his years of service, SFC Tobin has held numerous leadership positions, including Fire Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and Recruiter.

He started his military career when he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1993. While in the Marines he served in Okinawa Japan with the 3rd SRIG (Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and intelligence Group). Later he served in the 3rd Marine Air Wing in El Toro, California before finishing his Marine Corps time at Fort Douglas Utah.

SFC Tobin joined the ranks of the Utah Army National Guard in 2005. He first joined the 145th Field Artillery out of Camp Williams Utah. After a short stint as a reserve drilling member, he started working active duty as an AGR (Active Guard Reserve) Recruiter.

SFT Tobin is married to Misty Tobin and together they have nine children. Two of their children are currently serving in the Utah Army National Guard. One of these children is Active Duty with the Guard and the other child is currently working towards contracting in the ROTC.

SPEAKER HIGHLIGHT:

Tenia Wallace is currently the COO of a multi-million dollar grocery decor company with 60+ team members located in rural Utah. Decorworx, a family-owned business, focuses on businesses and their success. Tenia is passionate about her business, and those businesses she is helping. She is positioned to become CEO of Decorworx within the next five years.

Tenia was named in Utah’s Business Magazine as one of the 20 in their 20’s as well as a recipient of Progressive Grocers GenNext award in 2019. In 2020 Tenia sits on two national advisory boards, SUU School of Business National Advisory Board along with ROFDA’s Retailer Advisory Board. She has figured out if she helps businesses create an experience, that businesses need to retain current team members and customers while attracting new customers, which leads to a robust business.

SPEAKER HIGHLIGHT:

Ashleigh Zimmerman studied sociology and social justice at Kean University on the outskirts of New York City. She credits travel and the patience of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color friends and family for helping her understand how she was taught to accept the societal norms that harm people based on their identities. Her interests include helping others who benefit from systems of oppression understand how they can better take action towards a more equal world. At SUU, Ashleigh works as the Coordinator of Financial Literacy and Completion to ensure financial barriers don't get in the way of students' goals to graduate.

John Belk is an Assistant Professor of English at Southern Utah University where he directs the Writing Program.
