For 20 years AHHAS has been educating, enlivening, enlightening and enriching the lives of students by providing opportunities to explore the past and present through active involvement in traditional and modern arts and crafts. AHHAS was named for Alton Holman, a noted and beloved artist who was educated at the Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring, GA. He is best known for his stunning phot

ography and his work with both deaf and hearing children. Since our founding we have held classes for students of all ages teaching the following heritage arts: pine needle and wood splits basketry, bead making (by hand and by torch), carved walking sticks, chair caning, crochet, felting, glass kaleidoscopes, marbling, masonry, oil paint, papier mache puppetry, porcelain painting, Pysanky (Ukranian egg batik), quilting, Rosemailing (Polish decorative painting), silver clay, stained glass, storytelling, tatting, theater arts, weaving, woodcarving and woodworking with hand tools. All our instructors are practicing artists and several are nationally acclaimed. AHHAS holds classes for school groups, adults and intergenerational groups. For 15 years we have hosted the drama camp, Theatre Arts in the Park in beautiful Rolater Park here in Cave Spring. The day camp offers classes in voice, stagecraft, acting and stage movement. A final production is staged for the parents and the community on the last day of camp. AHHAS has also worked with other non-profits. Our masonry class built a brick foundation for the Cave Spring Historical Society. We collaborated with Cave Spring UMC to teach plaster application and repair as well as brick re-pointing for their two 1880s National Historic Register buildings.
