Spiral Living Center

Spiral Living Center Spiral Living Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has served the Illinois Valley of So Our Earth Scouts!

We have developed and currently maintain a wide spectrum of community-reliance programs help our neighbors meet their basic needs such as food, shelter, transportation, and communication. Through the IV Gleaning Project, we encourage local gardeners and farmers to share excess food crops with those in need. We facilitate the harvesting and distribution of fruits and vegetables that would otherwise

go to waste by donating to volunteers and food banks in Josephine County. Program inspired by our late Board Member, Scout, provides a safe outdoor educational experience specifically for teens and adults to heal from isolation and industrial culture. Through deepening relationships with themselves, each other, and the living earth, participants will build self confidence and trust in themselves and peers as they develop outdoor and rural living skills that they can depend on in uncertain times. We also maintain the IV Bikespace and Resource Libraries where neighbors can come to fix or repair tools, and rent educational materials. Alongside our programs above, we also organize and execute hands-on educational events and large scale gatherings. For the last 14 years, our programs mentioned above have thrived with the help of grants, donations, volunteers, and dedicated community members. If you would like to be a part of SLC, consider becoming a member or volunteer. Email us at [email protected] to inquire about ways to get involved!

What can YOU teach?

Skillshare 2026 is coming together, and we’re still looking for community members willing to share practical skills, creative knowledge, and hands-on workshops with the Illinois Valley community.

You do NOT need to be a professional teacher.

If you know how to:
🌱 garden
🔧 repair things
🥫 preserve food
🍲 cook from scratch
🧵 sew or mend
🌿 work with herbs
📻 use radios or preparedness tools
🎨 create, organize, build, or problem-solve…

…you probably have something valuable to share ❤️

This event is all about neighbors teaching neighbors and building stronger community connections through practical learning and shared knowledge.

Happy Mother’s Day from Spiral Living Center 🌿💐

Some of the strongest magic in a community comes from the people who nurture it day after day. The moms who grow gardens, share recipes, teach life skills, check in on neighbors, haul snacks to events, and somehow keep everything moving even when life gets wild around the edges.

Today we’re celebrating all forms of motherhood and caregiving, especially here in our little corner of Southern Oregon where love often looks like homemade meals, muddy boots, sun-warmed flowers, and helping hands.
These beautiful blooms from O’Brien felt like the perfect backdrop for today. 🌸

We hope your day brings moments of peace, laughter, connection, and maybe a little time outside in the sunshine. Happy Mother’s Day, Illinois Valley. 🌼

Imagine this…

The power goes out.
Phones stop working.
The grocery shelves? Empty by nightfall.

No warning. No instructions. Just a quiet question spreading through the valley:

👉 “What do we actually know how to do?”

Here’s the truth…

When things get weird, the most valuable people aren’t the loudest.
They’re the ones who know how to grow food, fix things, cook from scratch, organize, care for others, and think on their feet.

That’s what Skillshare 2026: Build Your Survival Skill Set is all about.

Hosted by Spiral Living Center, this isn’t about panic…

It’s about preparation.
It’s about community.
It’s about becoming someone others are glad to have nearby.

✨ Learn something useful
✨ Share what you know
✨ Find your role in a stronger, more connected community

Because when things get weird…

Useful people matter.
And no one survives alone.
