Meet Mary Ellen! She has served as a childcare volunteer at support groups since Maryland's launch in 2022! Here's what she says about why she wanted to get involved:

"I am so proud of how Foster the Family supports families who are willing and eager to open their hearts and homes. These children often come from uncertain circumstances, but through the love and care they receive, they are given the opportunity to thrive.

I love caring for these children and watching them grow in positive ways. The support groups provided to foster and kinship parents is so helpful, and the activities and events offered help children feel seen, loved, and encouraged.

Thank you, Foster the Family, for creating a community where children and families are supported every step of the way. Thank you, thank you!"

What's not to love about Lasagna Love?!

Here in Maryland, their volunteers have shown up time and again, casseroles in hand, to provide for the moms and kids at all of our support groups, or have served the fresh Italian comfort food to little ones during Kids Day Out, and have especially provided casseroles right to a foster family's doorstep.

We are so grateful for this partner sharing about the needs of the people, young and old, that we serve, so their volunteers can use their gifts for good.

June is Reunification Month 🫶

Reunification Month recognizes the importance of strengthening families and celebrating the successful reunification of children with their parents and caregivers when it is safe and in their best interests.

Foster care is designed to provide temporary care and support for children while families work toward stability and healing. A core goal of the child welfare system is reunification—helping children safely return home whenever possible through services, resources, and family-centered support.

This month, we honor the dedication of parents, relatives, foster families, caseworkers, and community partners who work together to create safe, stable, and nurturing environments for children. Every successful reunification represents resilience, growth, and hope for the future.

Make a splash with other foster, kinship, and adoptive families this summer! Join us for our annual Pool Party on Saturday, July 18, at Lochearn Pool.

Spend the day connecting with other families, building community, and enjoying time in the water with the children in your care. As always, The Table Church will generously provide lunch and dessert, so all you need to bring is your swimsuit and a readiness for fun!

Whether you're reconnecting with familiar faces or meeting new friends, this is a wonderful opportunity to relax, enjoy the summer, and strengthen your support network.

Summer is basically here, and for many of us, it's a season of "both/and."

Both exciting and tiring.
Both less structured and more demanding.
Both fun and draining.

Whatever this season brings, please know we're here for you through both the joys and the challenges of summer.

From connecting you with resources, to answering the “It’s been a hard day—I need someone to talk to” message, to helping you find a community of people who truly understand what you’re experiencing, we are here for you. 🤳

If you are going through an especially difficult time, please reach out. We love showing up with a care package when a child is placed in your home, but we want you to know that is only the beginning of our commitment to walking alongside you on this journey. 📦

You do not have to do this alone. We are here for you every step of the way. 🚶🏾‍♀️🚶🏿🚶‍♀️

With all the Mayhem that this month brings for many with chaotic schedules and little energy, the reality is that for children in foster care, "mayhem" is simply what they have always known.

Many carry the weight of lives marked by unpredictability and insecure attachment, with their bodies and minds constantly responding to the tension of uncertainty. 🏋🏿‍♀️

What we hope others take away from Foster Care Awareness Month is this: there is a place for you in this work, too. 🧩

Some people are natural connectors who can share resources, build relationships, and give their time. 🕗

Some are nurturing caregivers who can provide consistency through foster care, respite care, mentoring, or childcare support. 🫂

Others are gifted planners who can organize events, coordinate donation drives, and help create programs that strengthen support for children and families. 🗂

We are deeply grateful for everyone who recognizes their role and chooses to show up during Foster Care Awareness Month. And we are especially thankful for those who continue showing up all year long, helping bring stability, connection, and hope to children and families impacted by foster care. 💝

As we near the end of the month, the work continues to provide welcome care packages and truly needed necessities to youth as they are removed from their home environment — often transitioning to live with a family they’ve never met before.

These curated care packages are meant to offer comfort during an incredibly difficult time. A simple item can carry so much meaning:

“This water bottle is for you to have, so you always have enough to drink whether at home or school.”
“This blue bath towel is yours, and no one else’s — so you can feel clean, fresh, and cared for each day.”

Will you join us in providing these necessities, along with restaurant gift cards for families who may have specific dietary restrictions? Let’s show up for youth during this critical time.

Please check out our Amazon wishlist to purchase items: https://a.co/0abdvwSL
or feel free to drop donations off at our center:
