Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet

Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

Our members develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds and raise funds for pediatric research. We help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged and care for the sick. Working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. And along the way, club members share friendship and laughter.

Wahkiakum High School Principal, Stephanie Leitz, addressed the Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, reporting on how her school used a Kiwanis $500 Mini-Grant to help fund a one-day bullying prevention program. Well-received by students, parents, and school staff, the program stresses conferring strength by recognizing vulnerability. Students told a local newspaper reporter that after the program, the school seemed to be a more positive place, with less snarkiness, sarcasm, and negative social media posts. The Club members are delighted to have helped!

The Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet, WA is proud and pleased to congratulate the eighth grade class of John C. Thomas Middle School on their "Moving Up" ceremony, held Thursday evening, June 11, 2015. It was upbeat, well-done, and a very happy experience for the students and their families. Kiwanis supports grade school children through the Terrific Kids recognition and awards program. So many of the eighth graders "moving up" to High School were familiar to us as recipients of Terrific Kids awards not so long ago. The Kiwanis Club wishes all of them success in their future endeavors! Dick Swart, Schools Liaison, Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet.

The Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet, Washington is proud to announce that its annual partnership with the Cathlamet Fire Department and the Wahkiakum County Fire Protection District #4 will again be raising funds for the Doernbecher Children's Hospital (Portland, OR) Kiwanis Children's Cancer Research Program. This annual charity takes the form of Fire and EMS Volunteers in turnout gear soliciting donations from passersby into outstretched "fire boots." This down-home approach honors the long-standing tradition of service clubs like Kiwanis and the emergency responders supporting charities (when they are not dealing with fire or accident calls). Our BOOT DRIVE will occur Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1, 2015, at the Cathlamet Market on Main Street, and Cathlamet Chevron on State Route 4, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Saturday) and 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (Sunday). The community has generously supported this charity, and we look forward to another great Boot Drive this year. (Note: Every penny goes to Doernbecher, and contributions are IRS 501[3]c tax deductible.)

The Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet, WA successfully partnered with the Cathlamet Fire/EMS Department and the Wahkiakum County Fire Protection District #4 to raise $4,586.67 for the Kiwanis Doernbecher Children's Cancer Program. Held on the weekend of February 2-3, 2013 in Cathlamet, the drive featured our volunteer firefighters and EMS responders using "turnout boots" as receptacles for donations from pedestrians and motorists. This harks back to historic times, when firefighters would "hold the boot" to solicit donations for charitable causes. This is a record donation level for a small community, and shows the generosity of our citizens to help pay for state of the art research to cure heretofore incurable cancers in kids. Bravo, firefighters!
