Support the heart (lev in Hebrew) of God's Covenant:
https://youtu.be/VZtD7n8mhWU
I am writing to seek your support for my organization, The Levite Line and www.theleviteline.com. This organization came out of my spiritual, religious and historical search for answers to many questions. One central question was: What is wrong with the Jews?
Coming from a Jewish background, I had studied about the Holocaust, since first learning about the Holocaust at age 10 via a book entitled, The Hebrew People. I sought for answers as to how Jews survived? What Jews should have or could have done differently so as to not have been in the position they were in up to and during World War II. I became a Christian as I wanted to learn about Christianity from within, besides from books. I had reached the conclusion that one simply cannot be Jewish in this world. Becoming a Christian was part of my escape plan, as Jewish history, especially the Holocaust, showed me that Jews survived in various ways. One was to pretend that they were Catholic or Christian. Being that survival is not sufficient, as far as I’m concerned, I knew that I would not want to remain a “Christian”.
Becoming a Christian, from my understanding at that time, meant reading and believing the Bible. As I read the Bible, beginning with page 1, I soon realized some things and drew one conclusion. That is that the Levites are what is wrong with the Jews. I also realized that I must be a Levite, though I was never told this by anyone. My family name of Levik, seemed to make this obvious along with a temper to match (Genesis 49:5-7 “Simeon and Levi are brothers—
their swords[a] are weapons of violence.
6 Let me not enter their council,
let me not join their assembly,
for they have killed men in their anger
and hamstrung oxen as they pleased.
7 Cursed be their anger, so fierce,
and their fury, so cruel!
I will scatter them in Jacob
and disperse them in Israel.”
There my journey began and continues, 46 years later.
Back in 2008 (5768-5769) I established The Levite Line as a 501©3 not-for-profit religious organization. Seeking to establish ALL that God commanded in the Torah for Judah, Joseph, Levi and all of the descendants of Jacob/Israel and all of mankind. With Levi and the Levites representing the heart of this eternal covenant (the word for heart in Hebrew is lev).
Another question I had was, ‘Who, what and where are Israel?’ As in ‘the lost tribes of Israel.’ In fact the Torah (5 Books of Moses, who in fact was a Levite) states that the Levites were distributed amongst all 12 tribes. Numbers 35:2 “Command the Israelites to give the Levites towns to live in from the inheritance the Israelites will possess. And give them pasturelands around the towns.” Numbers 35:8 “The towns you give the Levites from the land the Israelites possess are to be given in proportion to the inheritance of each tribe: Take many towns from a tribe that has many, but few from one that has few.”
The tribe of Joseph become 2 tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, and Levi was pulled out to be separate, to be objective, something the rabbis have condemned and their followers have gone along with. Which I can tell you is still quite ingrained, as nearly ANY criticism is deemed anti-Semitism and condemned as such, as is said messenger. Thereby creating an unjust society which cannot police itself and forcing the Levites out of their God-given role.
At the time that I first became a believer I discovered (in Penn Station, NY) Plain Truth magazine. Within this magazine complimentary booklets were offered. I had discovered a spiritual side, based upon knowledge. These booklets advertised information about the “House of Israel,” “House of Joseph,” “House of Ephraim.” All considered synonymous for the “Lost tribes of Israel.” I ordered and read some booklets, which stated that the British, the Scandinavians and other Northwest Europeans were the lost tribes of Israel. I have read no other evidence supporting any other groups of people as being the “Lost tribes of Israel.” Some have said there are tribes or partial tribes in Africa or India, but there is not any written evidence to convince me. Besides, words in the English language, such as a levi (tax) and levee and even level are there and subtle enough to show the sensitivity of such people, understanding that this is an overwhelming role and extra pressure is not helpful.
I write this letter to reach out to both the church as well as the temple community. If you consider the Bible as your central text then I am hoping for your support and your prayers and your tithing. Just as my prayers are central to and at the heart of Israel’s survival and success. I understand the skepticism that people justifiably feel at what I am determined to achieve, since the Levites have failed to uphold what God commanded of them from the beginning, until the present day.
I believe that the Levitical priesthood needs to be worldwide, just as the Catholic and other priesthoods are. I wish my ancestors had picked up this mantle, but that is ‘water under the bridge,’ at this point. It has been a process of fighting through much of the man-made rules and traditions which traditional Judaism has put ahead of God’s laws, as Yeshua/Jesus spoke about in Mark 7:5-8 “The Pharisees and the scribes asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with impure hands?”
He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:
‘This people honors Me with their lips,
But their heart is far away from Me.
‘But in vain do they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.’
Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.”
This does not mean that I believe the Biblical commandments have been ‘done away with’, as many churches teach though Yeshua (Jesus) did not teach this. I do believe the laws of the Torah have been misunderstood, that they need to be followed freely, not by arm twisting nor badgering, nor by watering them down, nor believing they must be followed or else. They should be followed freely, because one wants to, not because one has to, even though one does have to. One does so because one wants to please God and because they understand they had better not only do this, but love doing so. What should also be understood is that one follows God’s laws for one’s own good. This is a process, where things we might think are weird or crazy or wrong, turn out to not be so weird, crazy, nor wrong. Poor presentation or poor understanding does not mean the written laws of Torah have been “done away with” nor “nailed to the cross.” I do believe that the “oral law” was meant to be “nailed to the cross” and needs to at least be understood as secondary and optional, as opposed to the written laws of Torah. If one believes and loves God, then one is happy to follow his commands. I do believe that is the potential attitude of many in the church community, especially as I understand that many are the actual descendants of the “lost” tribes of Israel/Joseph/Ephraim. I also believe that many in the less traditional Jewish temple communities who espouse a belief in a reform of Judaism, might be open to support The Levite Line.
I believe that the needs are co-dependent and need to be met freely, not through government taxation (levis), which is where some of the problems began and continue (in Israel today a certain percentage of taxes are paid to the government to give exclusively to Orthodox rabbis), incomprehensibly. I believe in learning about as well as from the past. To recognize and correct errors. Traditional Jews are very much not on board with this concept, though there is some slight movement in that direction. Taking pride (as I continue to hear from Jewish leaders) in a history of failure assures that the failures will continue. Here is an off-ramp for the Jewish community, though I assume pride will prevent such leadership from supporting the work of God through The Levite Line and instead continue with traditions of man being placed ahead of God’s commands. A God which many Jews encourage and are encouraged to not believe in by Jewish constituents. Another childish and self-destructive response to Christianity and Christians, who are more insistent that one claim to believe in God (sometimes with limited evidence for said beliefs). Just as Catholics preach and teach that pride is a deadly sin, Jews preach pride insulting people’s intelligence, as if people are unaware what the Catholic Church teaches about pride (admittedly I only recently comprehended that this is likely another Jewish attempt to remain “separate” or “distinct,” by making pride something positive so as to snub their noses at the “church”, even if what the church teaches is an objectively good concept, as in this instance).
There are many wealthy people as well as less wealthy and less well connected in the Jewish community. I would love and hope to gain their spiritual, emotional, as well as financial support. However, if they want to reject any and all criticism, then such support will not be welcomed. I have seen and experienced this pattern from the Jewish community. Friends of the Jewish community are expected to NEVER utter a critical word. Once one does, the person is labeled and often added to the “Anti-Semite” file. Problems are not addressed, because Jews prefer to pretend all is well and those who notice anything wrong are the problem. It’s the old, ‘shoot the messenger,’ because the message does not feel good. Problems cannot be addressed, because it’s best to pretend that there are no problems. Problems are to be kept secret and hidden, which aligns with a community that does not really believe in God. Deuteronomy 29:29 “The things hidden are to Jehovah our God, and the things revealed are to us and to our sons -- to the age, to do all the words of this law.”
Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” Jeremiah 23:23-24 “Am I a God at hand, declares the LORD, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the LORD.” There is limited evidence to suggest such words are taken seriously by the Jewish community.
Nevertheless, I understand the need to hide and try to keep hidden certain deeds. At the age of 15 or 16 I discovered that I was attracted to other men. At that point I was an agnostic, questioning the existence of God. What I did know was that being “gay” or having any type of same-s*x attraction was not accepted anywhere, outside the gay community. I fought this for a long, long time. Trying my best to keep this secret hidden. However, this did not change the world around me. Though it might have made a dent in that world around me, which has changed drastically over these 50 years since I developed and discovered these feelings. During this struggle with having a same-s*x attraction and being Jewish I recognized that “religion” and their understanding of “God” were where this “problem” was most pronounced. I refused to ignore this. I also did not want to get caught up in the snare of religion, as I saw it. When I initially read the Bible, on my own, just shy of 21 years, I was not convinced that the two Biblical/Torah/Old Testament verses which are oft quoted as a condemnation of (male) homos*xuality, were meant by God as a condemnation.
Leviticus 18:22 “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”
Leviticus 20:13 “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.”
At that point, I read and believed the Bible, but not how “we” believe it, but how “I” believed it, since I had read it on my own. That is a microcosm of my struggle. The individual vs. the crowd or in too many cases, the bullies. Where what “we” believe generally stifles what an “I” believe, whether I is myself or any other individual. Besides this was that in reading and understanding and believing these laws, these 2 above referenced laws are somewhat minor, as in they are not one of the Big Ten (Ten Commandments). However, since the second verse does reference a penalty of death, it is quite serious.
My feeling then and more clearly now is that lying “with a male as with a woman” is not what I did, nor did I like it, nor approve of. That is, to be blunt, so**my. Where one male penetrates the other male (or the “female”) a**lly. Something I never liked the idea of, nor the act of. Though I quickly found out that I was very much the exception to the rule, on this front, within the gay scene.
It is this law that homos*xual men regularly and proudly violate. Christian men, who mostly have been taught that the Biblical Law was “nailed to the cross” are not concerned with following these 2 laws, nor any other of the Biblical laws, for the most part. I’ve also not yet heard of Jewish gay men being concerned with these 2 Levitical laws, even if they come directly from the Torah that Jews allegedly revere and love and which are central to every Jewish temple/synagogue. Besides the religious or spiritual aspect is the physical or biological aspect. This is to say that this part of our bodies is designed to eliminate solid waste. Gay men want to treat it as equivalent to a woman’s va**na (I have heard the terms mangina, p***y, manhole, manp***y to offer a small sample of the crude jokes told by many).
What I am saying is that if gay men eliminated so**my (a**l pe*******on) they would not, in my opinion, be violating these 2 Levitical laws, nor the laws of nature.
The “Greek way” is understood by many to mean male a**l in*******se, which goes far back in history. I believe that the Torah was meant to enlighten people. Not to condemn, as long as people can be honest with themselves and with God. That is to take correction and rebuke and make changes, as needed.
On the Jewish end there is a great deal of trust in leadership who literally have a check list for the Messiah and rather than recognize the obvious need to rethink and alter said checklist they will wait for someone to meet all their requirements, rather than admit they have been wrong. Hence, I offer this to a community and culture bent upon its own demise and who will defend killing someone like myself, as their forefathers killed the prophets and the Messiah. Hence, I look and hope for the people of Israel, the church, to hear and support my message as I hope and trust they will. Though I am not holding my breath.
Exodus 12:48 “And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.” People may reconsider their vacation plans and time in the holy land after reading this. Especially if their males are uncircumcised. With the Levites in charge of the tabernacle the Levites would be expected to prevent uncircumcised males from entering the sanctuary. Yet the sojourner is to be treated like a native. Therefore they would be expected to observe or celebrate Passover like a native Israelite, which would require that they be circumcised.
One point I am concluding is that homophobia and homos*xuality and how poorly this issue was handled is what has devastated the Levitical priesthood and with it the unity of the people of Israel. The Book of Judges beginning with Chapter 19 covers the story of a Levite who was assaulted in a town within the territory of the Benjaminites, while being given a place to stay with an Ephraimite. Judges 19:22 “While they were enjoying themselves, some of the wicked men of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they shouted to the old man who owned the house, “Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have s*x with him.””
The story proceeds to state that the Ephraimite offered his virgin daughter and the Levite offered his concubine. The “wicked men” had their way with the Levite’s concubine. That concubine died on the doorway of this home, after having been r***d all night. Whether the response to the “wicked men of the city” is homophobia or not may be debatable. Misogyny seems obvious. However, these so-called “wicked men” did not want the Levite’s concubine nor the Ephraimite’s virgin daughter. They wanted the male Levite. Certainly a challenging situation. It is completely unjust to have offered or to have sent any of the women. These men wanted the man. The Levite. There are men today who want men s*xually and they are often still described as “wicked men”. Particularly by the more religious people. Along with the demonization of homos*xuality is the misogyny that was also part of this encounter. The challenge then and still today is to take homos*xuality out of being shameful and deadly and recognize that it can be beautiful and healthy within healthy limits. That would be largely in the hands of the male homos*xual community, to which I see little evidence to convince me that they believe that any limits are warranted. Even after HIV and AIDS have ravished the male homos*xual community. Pills and medicines are available to hide the deadly disease for those already infected. Pills and medicines are available to help prevent one from becoming infected. It seems to me that little thought is given to the absurdity of needing medicines to prevent an illness. Maybe do not engage in the behavior that makes medicine a necessity? That idea is treated as ludicrous. It’s an ancient problem, with an ancient solution: Leviticus 18:22 “‘Do not have s*xual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.” Leviticus 20:13 “‘If a man has s*xual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”
First of all, neither law says ‘Do not lie with a man,’ as too many misquote these laws. Either purposely to dismiss God, whom they think dismisses them. They each say, ‘Do not have s*xual relations with a man as one does with a woman…’ A superficial look or glance says no s*x between men, which is not what either law states. What I believe it is saying is do not act like either of two men is a woman, because neither man is a woman. Seems obvious. Neither man has a va**na nor is one’s rear end a va**na. In fact ones re**um is quite different from a va**na. Though gay men love to say (possibly in jest) that ‘a hole is a hole.’ One’s re**um is meant to eliminate solid waste and not at all able to produce offspring, as a woman’s va**na is. This ancient Levite, whose tribe was given this law to uphold, had to establish this then and still today. Establish that homos*xuality should be respected as a real thing and guided into a healthy direction, with limits. NOT unconditional love. In fact, conditional love. However, we are not going to invade people’s bedrooms. Or are we? We can teach and advise people on what is healthy and unhealthy, but people are free to disagree or to experiment or to completely reject. They certainly have to make up their own minds. What we have now at least is that the discussion is happening. The subject of (homo) s*xuality is on the table.
One other point is that this is neither black or white, or good vs. evil. Some s*xual actions between two men are wrong. However, not all actions are wrong. I hear no one expressing this. Hence, as Gandhi is quote as saying, ‘be the change you wish to see in the world.’ People are cornered to declare that they are either pro (for) or con (against) homos*xuality. However, forcing men to be with women and vice versa is ridiculously unwise. This was the wrong solution then, even though the civil war that ensued in ancient Israel determined that this was the solution. Because if one reads further on in the Book of Judges they will find this poor solution in Judges 21:23 “So that is what the Benjaminites did. While the young women were dancing, each man caught one and carried her off to be his wife. Then they returned to their inheritance and rebuilt the towns and settled in them.” These actions are approximately 3000 years in our rear-view mirror and I for one am standing firmly on the belief that kidnapping women to be wives is NOT an acceptable answer. This story may be suppressed or glossed over, but the message it sent, permeates until this present day. Women have been fighting and pushing back on this misogyny, but many religious circles refuse to address this injustice. In fact, they uphold this injustice, either demanding women’s silence or forcing women to cover their hair or every body part, out of fear that their exposure will cause men to lust after them. What is ignored is that not only are women beautiful. So are men. It is silly and childish for men to pretend otherwise. Except the fear is that this acknowledgement may be acknowledging a s*xual curiosity or attraction. Herein lies a conundrum, especially when the male homos*xual scene disproportionately produces a deadly disease, with the attitude that science can and will cure this disease. Rejecting the idea that any behavior of these men themselves is at all responsible. Homophobia is very real and convincing many males to prefer to ‘grab’ a wife rather than accept their same-s*x attraction. I would prefer not to condemn, but if gay males refuse to recognize that a**l pe*******on is unwise, wrong, disgusting, deadly…then the homophobia that follows will be largely on them. It is past time to reconsider certain behavior and move forward or maybe backward to begin to establish God’s law on earth and understand that God’s Law is good and meant for the good of men (and women). Of course, a religion that teaches and preaches that God’s law was “nailed to the cross” or “done away with” are teaching the anarchy that feeds the anything goes attitude of most gay men.
Good is also not making anyone feel ashamed of their bodies or their attractions. Though as mentioned earlier, not all attractions are good. Hence the conundrum to not judge, but the need to judge. The understanding not to condemn, but the need to condemn certain behavior and the diseases that naturally or unnaturally follow.
