Thank you to Danielle for Cathedral City for her tireless efforts to restore transparency and public oversight to the proposed zoning code update, to city Staff and legal for finding actionable ways forward, and to the Planning Commission for its diligent work in paving the way to a brighter future for Cathedral City.

Now we recommend the City Council adopt the new code as written.

We’re calling on Cathedral City’s Planning Commission to vote NO on the Development Code Update unless the changes they’re asking for are written into the code (as opposed to an attachment to a resolution that could later be unenforceable). The city portrays this process as a fixed timeline, it is not. It should take as long as it takes to get it right, not be rushed through with so many outstanding problems.

Cathedral City Planning Commission has its final meeting scheduled to adopt the new Zoning Code. We're calling to see actual revisions based on the PC's very passionate discussion of missing elements at their September 9 meeting. We can NOT have our city adopt a blank check while serious concerns about public oversight remain unaddressed.

Please write in or attend next week (Sept 30 @ 6:00pm) to ask the Planning Commission NOT to recommend an incomplete draft to the City Council.

Our response to last night's Planning Commission meeting:

tl;dr Cathedral City's Planning Commission is moving us in the right direction, public oversight implementations are being considered, but we want to make sure they're fully implemented. And that their implementation is transparent, responsible, and sound.

La próxima semana, SU Comisión de Planificación celebra la primera de solo dos audiencias antes de votar si recomienda o no el segundo (y último) borrador de la Actualización del Código de Zonificación a SU Concejo Municipal.

Este borrador elimina descaradamente SU voz del proceso de zonificación, lo que significa que su derecho democrático a influir en lo que se construye en Cathedral City está siendo eliminado.
