Reflecting the values and concerns of Cathedral City and all of Coachella Valley, Danielle Mead is running for Cathedral City Council, District 5

Large data centers don't belong in the Coachella Valley.

Our desert climate already strains our water and energy resources. Facilities that require massive cooling systems and millions of gallons of water a year don't just raise our utility costs and compete for a resource we're already fighting to protect — they make our heat problem worse.

I understand the demand for data infrastructure is real and growing. But location matters. There are regions of the country where the climate, energy grid, and water supply are actually suited for this kind of industrial use. The Coachella Valley isn't one of them.

This isn't about being anti-business. It's about being honest about what our desert environment can sustain — and what it can't.

Message from Planning Commissioner Danielle Mead:
You may be aware that the city is currently updating its development code, which is the document that outlines all of the zoning, allowable uses, design standards, and processes for development in the city. The code applies to new construction and renovation/re-use of existing buildings - whether that's housing, commercial properties or mixed-use projects.
The document includes requirements for everything from building height/density, parking, fences/walls, landscaping and shade, lighting, signage, open space, allowable commercial uses (and associated standards), and more.
The new code has been through multiple reviews but is still in draft format. It's open for public comment now through June 12.
If you have questions, concerns, or ideas about how Cathedral City should develop and grow in coming years, I encourage you to take a look at the public review draft which I've linked to below. It's a long document, but you don't have to read the whole thing. You can look at specific chapters based on your interests or concerns as a resident, property owner, or business.
One thing I want to call out is that some types of projects which currently come before Planning Commission (and therefore are available for public review and comment) will be shifting to an administrative process. That means city planning staff will review the project for approval without any public input. It's worth looking at Division 6 of the code to see if you're comfortable with those changes.
If you have comments, you can submit them through the website (blue tab on right) or via email at [email protected].
Here's the link where you can access the entire document or review specific chapters:

This page will contain all published documents completed as a part of the Cathedral City Development Code Update. Please check back soon!

Are we finally going to get some relief for the badly damaged stretch of Ramon between Landau and Crossley? Widening and resurfacing of that area is part of the Palm Springs plan to rebuild the bridge at Landau. A new website is being launched to keep residents and business owners in Palm Springs and Cathedral City informed as this project gets started this summer (or fall...). Keep an eye on this page for regular updates. Information is available online, by phone, or by email:

Cathedral City is now accepting applications for appointments to committees and commissions. New terms run for three years, starting July 1. Interviews for open positions will be held in June.

Each commission has five members. Each council member is responsible for recommending one person to be appointed to each commission. However, it is important to note that this is NOT a district appointment. All commission members serve "at large". So for example, you might live in District 1, and be recommended for appointment by a council member for District 3. All applicants for each open position are considered.

To apply for a commission, go to the web Portal, find the one that interests you, and look for the Vacancies tab. Click one of the "APPLY" links and follow the directions. If you wish to apply to more than one commission you can - just follow that same procedure. Note that you can only serve on one commission at a time.

You can also apply for membership of any committee with a vacancy - apply in the same way. The selection process may require you to be interviewed by the whole council, not just one member.

Questions? Call the City Clerk Christina Burton at (760) 770-0322, or email [email protected]

Access the web Portal here: https://cathedralcity.primegov.com/public/committees A list of vacancies is attached below:

Trilogy by Shea Homes is requesting minor site, landscaping and architectural revisions to the already-approved development previously known as Nirvana. The project is now known as Broadway Cove. This is a development of 101 single family homes, each with an ADU. The 16.37 acre site is located south of East Palm Canyon Drive and west of the Cathedral Canyon West Flood Control Channel.

Mountain View Estates is a project originally approved in 2020 to build 110 single-family residences. The project is located between Ramon Road and McCallum Way, east of Neuma Drive and West of the Campanile gated community. In 2023 an amendment was granted, changing the architecture from a modern design to Spanish style properties, and added an ADU to each property. In 2025 the Planning Commission approved an amendment modifying the recreational uses in common areas, and minor lot line adjustments. The developers are now requesting a further time extension on those approvals for one year.

These applications will be discussed at the Planning Commission meeting on Wednesday April 1 in the rotunda at City Hall starting at 6pm. As with all public meetings, members of the public can address the commission on these topics, or any other topic of concern to them. Speeches are limited to 3 minutes each. Comments for the public record may also be submitted in writing to [email protected]

Note that at this meeting the commission is only considering the applications listed. It will not be reconsidering the original approvals for these projects.

Many residents have wondered about the development on the north side of the wash. A number of projects have been proposed, and the most recently approved was a 101 home (plus 101 back yard ADUs) called Nirvana. That project is now owned by Shea Homes, and has been renamed Broadway Cove. Hopefully this means development will start soon. They expect homes to sell starting in the $800,000s. They now have a website, though there is very little information yet:
