🚌 For many Bay Area youth, getting to parks isn’t as simple as hopping in the car. Transportation is often the biggest barrier between young people and the redwoods, waterways, and open spaces in their own backyard.

🏞️ With your support, the Regional Parks Foundation helps remove that barrier—funding bus transportation, camp scholarships, and expert naturalists who guide young participants every step of the way. 🥾

🌿 Today’s “Management for Resilient Vegetation” seminar offered clear insight into the many vegetation management efforts on the horizon and already underway across the East Bay Regional Parks. The day ended with three field trips showcasing the exciting vegetation work happening in the parks.

We’re proud to partner with the East Bay Regional Park District to advance vegetation management projects and best practices in the parks. From mitigating regional wildfire risk to strengthening biodiversity and native plant populations, vegetation management is crucial to ensuring our parks are safe, healthy, and vibrant for all. ✨

Women’s History Month is about honoring and celebrating the leadership and contributions of women who have dedicated their lives and careers to advancing positive impact in our parks and communities. 💪✨

In February 2023, Lisa Goorjian made history as the first woman to serve as the East Bay Regional Park District’s Assistant General Manager of Operations. Lisa has more than 25 years of public parks and recreation sector experience, including nearly five years as the District’s Design and Construction division lead. A registered landscape architect in California, Oregon, and Washington she possesses significant expertise in park and trail acquisition, planning, design and construction, operations, and natural resource restoration and conservation.

“In my current role, I am grateful for the growth opportunity to learn about and support the interpretation, outdoor recreation, and volunteer programming teams which are so fundamental to the East Bay Regional Park District.” — Lisa Goorjian

🗓️ Tomorrow (Friday, March 27), we invite you to join us in celebrating the achievements of women like Lisa who’ve shaped our park history and heritage. The Women’s History & Heritage Gathering — co-hosted by the East Bay Regional Park District and Girls Inc. of the Island City — will be held at Garin / Dry Greek Pioneer Regional Parks from 2-5 p.m. For more information or to RSVP, email [email protected].

🎉 Exciting news from the East Bay Regional Park District!

Last weekend, we joined the District and our partners in celebrating the Coyote Hills Restoration and Public Access Project grand opening and ribbon-cutting — marking a 25% (~300-acre) expansion of Coyote Hills Regional Park for public access. This newly protected section includes more parking spots, new picnic sites, electric vehicle charging stations, restrooms, trails, wildlife observation decks, and interpretive displays about the nature, history, and rich cultural significance of the land.

This land was generously donated to the Regional Parks Foundation in 2014 by descendants of the Patterson family, whose holdings included what is now Ardenwood Historic Farm. Its addition to Coyote Hills Regional Park marks one of the most historic land contributions expanding public access to nature in the Park District’s more than 90-year history. 🌿

If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, consider visiting this new section of Coyote Hills! ✨

Over the weekend, we celebrated the life and legacy of Betty Reid Soskin (1921-2025) at the Henry J. Kaiser Center for the Arts in Oakland.

Soskin was a tireless champion of inclusive history who spent her later years ensuring that the stories of home front workers in World War II were honored and remembered. After working in a segregated union hall during the war and co-founding one of the Bay Area’s first Black-owned record stores, she helped shape the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park and became the National Park Service’s oldest active ranger at age 85.

For over a decade, Soskin shared her experiences and wisdom with park visitors—elevating underrepresented narratives and inspiring generations. Her legacy of advocacy, education, and inclusivity endures through the many lives she touched and the history she helped preserve.
