Make the most fun as possible this Holiday season! Be part of the Trunk or Treat event at Don Castro Recreational Area and see hundreds of kids parade in costume. We are looking for people to decorate their car trunks and help us celebrate the beginning of the holiday season. For information, April Chan, [email protected] and www.totworldchallenge.com.

FAIRVIEW LIGHTS: I participated as a judge in the first ever Fairview Holiday Lights contest. As your elected supervisor, I had the privilege of performing my quasi-judicial duties. I was impressed by the holiday spirit in Fairview. I hope everyone enjoys this season with friends and family.

First Place - 2165 Nina Street
Judges noted the organization of the statues and features. The features are grouped together by story/subject, not random.

2nd Place - 2987 Hidden Lane
This display is very expansive. Interesting to note that one of judges could tell that a younger family lives there by the "modern" design. Judges noted the symmetry and cleanliness of the design.

Honorable Mention - 22396 Ralston Court. This display has fun inflatable yard decorations , music and lots of things to see. If you go by the house expect to spend some time looking at all the different features. It will put you in the holiday spirit. Pictures of the house are below posted by Deborah Johnson.

Now that we are done with the judging, I learned that work is harder than one would think. Thanks to Ray Ortner, Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley, Kevin Dowling and Randy Wright for their support and willingness to judge the contest with their busy schedules. Also thanks to Nate Miley (AC County) Chris Higgins and Dale Silva (Fairview MAC), April Oquenda (HUSD School Board) for providing prizes. All you wonderful people named above said "yes" immediately when asked for help! Special, special thanks to Lone Tree Cemetery for their generosity as a reception sponsor.

Thanks to all the great Fairview neighbors who took the time to decorate their houses. These pictures are taken from all over our town. The music for the video is from our local treasure, Mt. Eden High School Choir in Hayward.

How do you know you live in Fairview vs. Hayward?
Someone contacted me tonight about some beautiful decorations on Orion. I wasn't sure if it was in Fairview (although I am sure the homeowner was clear), but it reminded me of a rule that is MOSTLY reliable. The street signs for Fairview (unincorporated Alameda County are white) and the street signs for Hayward are green. You can also use this community locator link which will tell you if you live in Fairview

Special thanks to Cathy Langley on Maude for nominating two great houses. There's so many wonderful holiday lights designs out there please follow her example and nominate your neighbors to enter the drawing at least. We can tell by driving around people have worked hard on their houses and they should have a chance to win a prize.
