Vet Science recently had a fun meeting. We learned all about worming animals such as why we worm, how often, rotating wormers and what kind of wormers are used for different species. We broke into teams and wormed a horse, cow, sheep and goat at the Sullivan’s. We learned that wormers can be in the form of a paste, a drench, a pour on and a feed through. We also learned about vaccinations for different animals including what they are for, how to read and calculate doses and sizes of needles and syringes. We practiced intramuscular (IM) “within the muscle” and subcutaneous (SQ) “just under the skin in the subcutaneous fat layer” vaccinations on bananas with dye so we could see the results when we cut open the bananas. We learned a lot and had fun as always! Grace S.

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated annually on March 17th, commemorates the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Many legends grew up around St. Patrick, including that he drove the snakes out of Ireland and used the shamrock to explain the Trinity.
Blue was the original color associated with St. Patrick's Day, but green is now the primary color.
We eat corned beef on St. Patrick's Day primarily because it became a staple food for Irish immigrants in the United States, who found it to be a more affordable alternative to the bacon they traditionally ate back in Ireland, making it a symbolic dish associated with their heritage and celebrated on special occasions like St. Patrick's Day. While corned beef is associated with St. Patrick's Day in the US, it's not a traditional Irish St. Patrick's Day meal in Ireland, where they might eat lamb or bacon instead.
Today, St. Patrick's Day is celebrated with parades, festivals, and wearing green, with many people celebrating their Irish heritage.
I love St. Patrick's Day as it is a fun, vibrant celebration of Irish culture, with parades, green attire, and a festive atmosphere, making it a great time to connect with friends and family and enjoy some Irish traditions. - James J.

For our February baking project we made chocolate dipped strawberries! It was very fun. First we melted some milk chocolate and white chocolate, then we got some little skewers and stabbed the strawberry on to the skewer, and finally we dipped it into the melted chocolate and took it out to let it cool on some parchment paper. When they cooled and the chocolate hardened we tasted them, they were so good! - Ysabel G.

At this month’s livestock meeting we learned how to make informational and biography posters to be displayed in the barn at the Alameda County Fair this summer. In order to make these posters, we learned we would need to choose a topic and do research. We learned we will also need to design (either digitally or handmade) and laminate the posters so they don’t fall apart from the humidity in the barn. Now that we know how to make our posters, all we have to do now is have a really fun time putting them together! Claire B.
