Today marks 25 years since the Afghanistan War began. Let us pause to remember the courage of all who bravely served and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

We will have Scouts leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Miss Scarlett singing our National Anthem at Noon. We will then have a USA flag retirement ceremony. Please bring your USA flags that are no longer in respectable condition to our VFW. We have a receptacle for them on our front porch.
Thank you,
Rik, Commander

The days are getting cooler... The Community Hospice is in great need of handmade red-white-blue blankets to keep our Veteran patients warm and comfortable. The Community Hospice believes that a patient's military service history is integral to providing the most appropriate, personalized end-of-life care so we are committed to our "We Honor Veterans" program, which pays tribute to every Veteran entering our care by presenting them with a red-white-blue blanket handmade for them with love and delivered by a Hospice staff member or volunteer. The bundle also includes a Certificate of Appreciation, a small flag, and a lapel pin.

If you or someone you know is a skilled knitter, crocheter or quilter, please help us fill the need and get the word out. Please consider donating blankets in red-white-blue, the colors that are most meaningful to our Veterans. (Throws 48 x 60 or hospital bed blankets 70x90 are preferred.)

Help us honor and thank our Veterans for their brave service and sacrifice. Blankets may be dropped off at our Albany office at 445 New Karner Rd, or a Hospice office near you. For more information, please call Cindy at 518-724-0200.

On National POW/MIA Recognition Day, and every day, the more than 1.3 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliary will keep the POW/MIA flag flying, the candle of hope burning and our commitment will remain unwavering. We will not rest until they are all accounted for.

I will be at the Post from 9 AM to 3 PM on Saturday 9/19/2026. Please feel free to stop by and view our walls of honor in our hall. There is information on Peter Andrews and other men that served in WWII, a picture board of Fort Orange employees that served, plaques of members of Sacred Heart Church that served, a plaque of members that have passed, and a plaque of prior Post commanders among other things.
There will also be Girl Scouts out front selling baked goods.
